When you're merging onto a new trail you should he watching where you are merging in. That said, by rule of the mountain. Uphill person has the responsibility. It hard because when you shoot into a new run the uphill rider has no chance of seeing you coming. I think you handled it great

Some cases both victims are the uphill rider, and trees make it impossible to see. No body at fault here, just terrible luck/timing.

I wouldn't put any fault on either since I don't think either party did anything wrong. It's through trees and people can come from anywhere in trees. Luckily both were chill about it. Some might argue the person going sideways could have a higher responsibility since traveling sideways (like crossing lanes on a road)... but again, they're in trees... not very thick trees, but trees nonetheless.

Once youre going, you can pull the rope over your leg a little bit so it doesnt strain your hands as much. Also, lean back a touch so you dont get yeeted if you hit something or if theres a jerk in the line. Well done!
