My insight has revealed that all have been or are in some form of "bondage." We may dislike the term, but, ultimately, that's what is. If a habit tendency is impeding healthy and conducive behavior, it's bondage. May we have the eyes to see it and even greater courage to eradicate it.

Is there any topic more important, more relevant to today's world than this? Compassion has the function of alleviating suffering. The gift of holding and facing suffering and let it go. Very powerful. Very grateful for this talk. 🙏

Woah. I was expecting cringe but he has a beautiful voice. Rhythm is a bit off, but his chanting is perfect. If I could sound like that I’d be chanting all the time 😂 I need to move to Tally and get lessons from him. I’ll be his caddy or servant lol It’s only an hour and a half drive.

In preparation he tells us: These days 'present' has become a buzzword, popular word, widely used by many people in many different ways and contexts, there is a lot of vagueness about this word. (Where there is this sloopy vagueness, there is sure to be a lot of confusion around this word.) Then he precedes to point out: "You have to be unmoved by your own thoughts and feeling in order to have an inkling (beginning taste) of what it's like to be present." Many other rich nuggets follow in this talk if one listens.

Yes, it is circumstantial and not a black-white commandment. Strictly making precepts a "once and for all command" is a limitation and against the Buddha's teaching of being mentally liberated. Buddha Dharma is practical and rational, our intent and sensible morality as well as our karmic circumstances play role in making decisions. Imagine not taking vaccines because we might "kill" the COVID thus infecting the whole sangha onto their arhathood. haha~ Namo Amituofo~

Thank you for sharing this teaching. It was nice to get a reminder that there's more to Chan than just sitting meditation. I've found myself at times falling into the trap of viewing my practice based only on how I feel I'm doing in seated meditation. I try to remind myself that the sitting is just the rehearsal and daily life is the main event. I also really connected with Guo Gu's teaching style. He has a quiet intensity that drew me right in. Looking forward to listening to more of his talks.
