Disastrous World Cup for Pakistan. Only won two matches against kiwis and india. Well Pakistan came back in next World Cup 1990 and played a final and the one after in 1994 Pakistan was world champion again.

India always been a very strong hockey team ...always performing at per with Ned, Aus and Ger . Whearous they always wins Olympic medal , India couldn't even enter semis ( except 2021 Tokyo). I wonder why ? Ofcourse they are inch weaker than these 3 , yet even accidentally why it didn't happen in Olympics ...even they are clear fourth ( skipping rise of BEL and Spain and Arg for a short period) ... Sometimes things happen you can't explain by logic ... In more than one occasion Indians were just at doorstep of Olympic Semi and suddenly impossible happened ( game against Poland , last second goal wash away their hope to Semis) etc etc

2004 to 2010 were the wrost years of Indian hockey . 1988 olympics india would have qualified to semis but lost to Soviet union, 1996 lost to Argentina , 1984 they were unlucky won 3 matches in the group still couldn't qualify pak won 2 matches in their group and qualified

This team was such a good blend of youth and experience not mentioning skill & flair! Unfortunately things didn't fall into place with incidents like Jugraj's accident, IHF President Gill's sacking of players & coach which lead to the fiasco in the 2004 Athens Olympics

It’s sad but true; just like Brazil lost the quarter finals in 1982 though playing a brilliant skillful game that is still remembered; team India will also remembered for that hockey 🙏

Pakistan stood 11th out of 12 teams only above India in this WC. Came back strong in the next winning silver (90 lahore ) and eventually winning the gold in Sydney in 1994

Pakistan thrashed minnow india in ke last match but everyone was hammering india back them. In 1990 World Cup even France hammered india. This was the worst World Cup for Pakistan. But Pakistan rebounded in next one and the following one Pakistan was again champions.
