I respectfully disagree. Everyone is entitled to like what ever they want, but saying that doesnt mean that all opinions in this regard are equal. The reason things are hierarchied the way they are is due to the fact that all art doesnt have the same type of quality or depth. The acolyte is what a shell company is in comparison to a real company. It looks and acts like a real show, but misses on all of the most important parts of what makes a story in to a story. A cohesive, understandable and comprehensive structure which makes sense. Charachters decisions and motives should not be something that the plot needs them to feel, rather, the plot should make it clear why these charachters act the way they do. Sadly The Acolyte fails on this, and in many other instances aswell. However, i think it is good that people like yourself give your opinion to the discourse. It enriches the starwars community and having a plethora of opinions is ulitmately good for society.

This is a great video, I disagree with a couple of your negative points, but I do agree with your review in general. This show, despite what its haters who only have surface level weak criticisms would say, was a really fresh take on not only the concept of family in Star wars, which is what it started with, but also the perception of light and dark and what it means to align with either side. Something I heard Generation Tech say which I really loved was that The Acolyte is the tale of when a deeply passionate and caring person (Sol) fails to follow the Jedi's dogmatic ways and through such gets himself into a world of trouble by not telling the Jedi about it initially.

I enjoyed the choroe's and the supposed Plotline. I say supposed, because I really think if they hadn't effed around with the existing lore so much, gave it another 4 episodes, made a main character that people actually take interest in and boom, that show could've been VERY good. I dont want to judge you but forming your opinion on just these videos isnt that good imo. Thats my problem. Most of them say that this show breaks canon in every way. But thats not entirely true. The Jedi Order (and Mundi) doesnt know about Qimir (only Venestra and probably Yoda know that he lives) and the return of the sith. In canon we dont know much about Ki-Adi-Mundi so this situation with his age is pointless imo. His "old" age is still legends. And to all the haters: Im not a Disney shill and i dont think that this is the greatest show of all time. In a ranking it would prbably in C-tier
@lubixoriginal4 ай бұрын
@@DarthRacoonar Nah nah, I didn't say I think the show is shit, because I obviously didn't watch it. I just said that I wouldn't even want to watch it, cause I only hear bad stuff. And I know about some things that happen in the show, that I really really don't like and make me kinda angry. Or disappointed. And I think that back then when Episode 1 came out, there was some sort of official handbook or idk what but it actually said his age. Now this is a really small detail thats of course easy to miss, still, if we look at legends, if we look at that, it is kiiiiinda weird that Mundi is in there. It is not my biggest problem tho. What I find problematic is that they introduced the twins (heard that they are the same person or so) who were created by the force. So basically there were chosen ones before Anakin? If it is right how I said it, then I have good reason to be bothered. My question tho: Was Anakin created by the force itself, or did someone create Anakin with the force? And what about the girls? Second thing that bothers most of the people is that the sith should not be present at that point at all, tho my theory when I heard of that was, that they just killed the Jedi and therefore no one witnessed it. Whats up with that? Also the one girl making the crystal bleed? I kinda don't think she would be able to do it. Even Vader struggled and had to put maximum hate into that thing. So if she isn't Sidious himself she should struggle more. At least multiple hours of trying. From what I heard and know, the show does really not do a great job and I have also never heard a reeeaaaaaally good argument before that convinced me it is good. I mean even film and show critics (not even star wars fans) said its objectively bad. I thought about watching it but... It's gonna be a waste of time

Jedi and Sith in my opinion should be black and white. Not fully of course, a good character or show is one wit nuance. But sith and jedi are designed to be good contrasting with evil. Jedi are selfless and Sith are selfish, jedi are calm and peaceful and Sith are passionate and hateful. The characters in the Acolyte seem to be nuanced for the sake of being nuanced, "wow, look at these emotionally unstable jedi, isn't that clever?" In my opinion the Jedi order we see in the prequel era is too hard on their ideals while the jedi we see in the Acolyte bends them a bit too freely. But I respect your opinion. I actually agree that the Acolyte wasn't THAT horrible of a show. I can't say I hate it as much as the rest of the fandoms seems to although I can't say I love it either. I like some things that it does and hate some things that it does. Regardless, nice video :)

The Sith, at least, are meant to be portrayed as an ultimate evil, individual's who's greed and ego consume everything around it until it destroys it them as well, just as it will the Empire after it. Sure, individual Darksiders can be portrayed sympathetic or tragically, but their more questionable actions, while understandable or explainable given their perspectives, shouldn't be justified or excused (in the case of those show, it would be Koril, the other witches and Mae's jealous attempts to hold Osha against her will and ignore her wish to leave the coven, which contributed to their destruction just as much as the Jedi's interference). The show has some good ideas and elements (the action especially)

I don't think the Acolyte was this amazing show that you're making it up to be. However I do agree on some of your points and I'd like to clarify why me and many others don't agree on a lot of the other things you said. (I want to note that I may forget or overlook things here and I apologize for that but I really don't feel like rewatching the entire show just to write a comment) Obviously the critique of the show having a female lead, or Lee Jung-jae not performing a "perfect American accent" are complete bullshit and should absolutely not be an argument for the show being bad. I too have seen people say some of those things and honestly as soon as I hear any of it I just click of the video cuz I'd much rather actually hear an honest take that isn't based on racism or sexism. Anyways, with that out of the way I want to go in to some parts that I think completely ruined the show for me and probably others too. This show is supposed to be set somewhere around 100 years before the events of the Phantom Menace. AKA the time of the high republic. This was supposed to be a time of peace and prosperity for the jedi. That is something that was very clearly stated in the Phantom Menace when Ki-Adi-Mundi, in response to Qui-Gon announcing his encounter with the sith apprentice Darth Maul, said "Impossible. The sith have been extinct for a millennium." Just that line in itself kind of kills the entire premise of the show. There can't have been any jedi dying or random sith acolytes running around during that time. The only ones that should have existed would be in hiding. Such as Darth Plagueis himself. Important to note though that they wouldn't be hiding in the way that Plagueis is portrayed doing in the show but rather in plain sight. Many of them working in high positions within the republic. This is again something we can see in the prequel trilogy with Palpatine himself being a prominent senator and later chancellor. Now back to why that is a problem for the show. I completely agree with you that is was an amazing change to actually see some characters get killed for once, as that is something Disney seems horribly afraid of doing. However I don't think this was the right show for it. If they had done something like this in Ahsoka, with Sabine dying, that would have been great. But it isn't here. As stated previously this was supposed to be a time of peace where there were (to the jedi's knowledge) no sith running around, and especially none killing jedi. You can't tell me Yoda didn't sense the ten(?) or more jedi being killed on Brendok. He even sensed Anakin killing the tusken raiders on Tatooine in Attack of the Clones. This leads me in to another big problem of the show that I feel you grossly overlooked. The problem being the existence of Ki-Adi-Mundi and Yoda in the story. Mundi literally participated in one of the meetings where they discussed jedi being killed by someone who, by the shows own words, was "trained in the arts of the jedi"* There is no way he would have forgot that by the time of the Phantom Menace, or that he wouldn't bring it up. It really doesn't make any sense at all for him to be there, hear about what was happening and then later not mention it to the council when Qui-Gon spoke of Maul. I have the same issue with Yoda. As we all know, he was an immensely powerful jedi and had a very strong connection to the force. So him not being able to sense that the jedi were dying or even that Vernestra was lying when she presumably explained her fake story of the events on Brendok to him makes no sense at all. And even if we say that Vernestra actually ended up telling Yoda the real truth, there is no reality in which he wouldn't bring that up to the rest of the high council or at least mention it in the Phantom Menace. Another massive lore breaker is the introduction of Plagueis. I can accept that he would be alive and exist at that time, I have no problem with that. However the fact that he didn't do anything about Qimir when he discovered him does horrendous harm to his character and the lore surrounding him. As stated by Palpatine himself (Plagueis's own apprentice, for those not aware) he was incredibly wise and strategic in assuring the remained secrecy of the sith's existence. He is even referred to as "Darth Plagueis The Wise". I personally see no world in which Plagueis wouldn't take matters in to his own hands and strike Qimir down before letting him do any harm to the sith. Besides that, the show also massively hurst Plagueis's character and legacy when they introduce that the idea and method to create life didn't even come from him. The fact that they hint that all Plagueis really did was observe the witches and their creation of Osha and Mae and then completely plagiarize it AND FAIL is disgusting and a straight punch in the gut to any Star Wars fan. In reality there shouldn't ever have been anyone able to create life. If there was then why wouldn't Palpatine tell Anakin the story of "The witches of Brendok who actually CREATED life" and not just one life either, but two. If Plagueis really did get it all from the witches, why wouldn't he tell his apprentice about that. He obviously didn't tell him the way they created life, but he must've at least mentioned them. Now onto another point, this one arguably less important yet still very confusing. In episode 8 of The Acolyte we learn that a politician in the senate has somehow learned that jedi are dying. How he knows this is never explained and the whole idea of it is honestly very confusing. How would a random, non-force sensitive politician know of the death of jedi when the high council, full of the most powerful jedi masters, including Yoda, didn't? Something I also want to talk about before I finish this off is the legacy of Anakin, the chosen one. With the introduction of Osha and Mae, who were also conceived by the force, the entire story and prophesy of the chosen one is largely in shambles. Obviously Anakin's legacy was already severely damaged in the sequels, however I don't see any reason to hurt it even more. Anakin is supposed to be the first being ever conceived by the force, the chosen one as the prophesy states. But now with the combined forces of The Acolyte and the sequel trilogy that entire prophesy has basically been disproven. Now Osha and Mae are the first beings conceived by the force instead. As Nute Gunray would say "This is getting out of hand", way out of hand. Alright, I think that's enough to sum up the biggest problems of the show. Of course there are many, MANY more problems both from a general story- and Star Wars standpoint. Some of the most notable being Osha bleeding Sol's lightsaber in seconds and with barely any effort at all, the fact that jedi are portrayed as the bad guys when the entire point of them (at least during the high republic era) is to be the embodiment of good. One of the good parts of the show was definitely the fighting. It is still very flawed and not at all on the same level was the prequels, however by far the best that lightsaber fighting has ever been portrayed by Disney. I'm gonna be honest, I was planning on mentioning a couple good parts of the show but I really can't think of anything other than the fighting at this current moment. For anyone who actually took their time to read this far I'd be happy to hear your suggestions of other good parts, taking in to account my criticisms. Also if you actually made it all the way here, thank you for your time! I'm sorry this was so long but I am really passionate about Star Wars and it was hard not to talk about all these things. Either way my conclusion is that this show was the worst Star Wars show yet, largely based on the sheer amount of lore breaking it did. I saw a great comment on another Star Wars video by @Keverember that said: "You know Star Wars is in a bad place when the fans are begging for their favorite characters to not show up out of fear of them being destroyed." And I think that really sums up the state of Star Wars right now. Anyways, this has gone on for way too long, thanks again for reading and may the force be with you! * the quote here may not be 100% accurate to what was said in the show but it is what I remembered it as
