How does any click work when cookies are cleared? Megalag showed the cookie was overridden... during an inspection of the website. Wouldn't it add another cookie instead of overriding it if it was counting all clicks? How does Howl know which click through your affiliate link was an actual purchase if the cookie is overridden? Sounds like howl needs an inspection too

Cookies are only one form of tracking. One that a user can control. Brands like Howl and other can use other methods with these companies, such as pixel tracking which the user can't control. Most bigger companies like Best Buy, Walmart, Target that are also on Howl, Impact and others use multiple methods of tracking when consolidating.

So, number one. You sat on this information and have not notified anyone. Number Two, you assume that everyone is on the Howl any click system, which not everyone is. Number three, he did show on one of his affiliate links how when he used Honey, he did not get the commission.

So 1 already explained most influencers I know already knew about the commission stealing. So I thought it was public knowledge, I was obviously wrong. 2 never assumed that, you would know that if you watched the whole video 3 the example he gave is a Howl link actually so he thought they didn't get credit, but they did. Which again is explained in my video.

Taking the commissions like Honey does is just straight fraud, they’re taking something in a way that is anti-competitive and also just doesn’t really make sense that they get paid in that way. The marketing money is meant for those who drive traffic to the products and ultimately drive the sale, we all know honey isn’t what’s driving these sales, it’s just there and it gets used for coupons, the influencer and marketing companies obviously are the ones getting the costumers to these sites. Honey is doing NO MARKETING, and taking the affiliate marketing commissions, that’s just stealing, outright, stealing from the merchant and messing up their analytics, and stealing from the Marketing affiliates, messing up their revenue streams, and so much more. Additionally they also false advertise , and nothing they do is clear to the customer. A lot of people wouldn’t care at all, but many also wouldn’t take a $2 discount if they know explicitly that the creator they’re supporting will get nothing. If everything honey was doing was clearly laid out, it still would be fraud, because Honey simply doesn’t do any marketing for the products it’s taking the marketing commissions for, when the merchant is checking who drove the sales the most, honey is just a wrench in the reality of that data set, outright fraud, they can’t go on an pay honey to do more marketing for them lol because they don’t do any marketing! I don’t know where the thought process was when they designed this app, they just outright knew they could steal or they really thought saying in court “Well we actually are the ones that drove the sale because of our offered discount or “shopping price confidence guarantee” would work? Lmao no, the marketing commissions are for people doing marketing, which they are just not doing, it doesn’t matter if they did drive those sales , it wasn’t through marketing, if they made money some other way then it would be fine, but no, they decided to just take was wasn’t meant for them.

So it’s just that in a small percentage of cases Honey doesn’t get to take all the affiliate credit, and other companies are bigger fish in affiliate replacement? That seems more like requiring just a comment on the megalag video rather than making a video, muddying the waters by claiming he got stuff wrong (he never said it happens 100% of the time and did cover that there were other models)

I feel like this video isn't effectively communicating what you wanted to communicate. It comes off at first like you're just saying he's just wrong about how Honey works and it doesn't actually steal commissions. I get that you're just trying to say you wish he'd picked an example where they actually did steal all the commission rather than the example he went with - but it's not very clear and it took a bit of effort on my part to figure out that was the point you were attempting to make. In the future maybe for a video like this you should just clarify a few things before you start going into details. Like I think far less people would have misunderstood the video if you'd started off making it clear that you're against Honey and that the only reason they didn't steal the entire commission from Linus in the example like Megalag assumed they had is because of work you did specifically to prevent companies like theirs stealing commissions from influencers.

I understand what was said in the video. But I don’t see the point. After watching mega lags vid, I was able to understand everything said in this video regardless of knowing or not knowing. But it did not really, give me anything concrete or yaknow smth new altogether. But I suppose it’s fine. At least you credited mega lag. “Knowing” and taking action and two different things. While u might know something mega lag did not, you did not actively try to enlighten other creators. Not to mention, mega lag has yet to release part two and three. So it might be wayyy worse than what we might think right now. Maybe that’s why he’s specifically targeting honey. He himself knows other big companies take advantage of consumers. Honey might be doing something else. Who knows.

@@vic_biologist in Megalag's video he gave an example where honey steals an affiliate commission from Linus for a sale on Newegg, he seemed to be under the impression that Newegg used last click attribution and honey was therefore taking the whole commission but they are actually one of the few who use dynamic click attribution so it would be split.

@@KZbinTechGuy But MegaLag didn't get it wrong, though? And you admitted in one of the comments that you are expanding on what he said, so he didn't really get anything wrong. I think if you had given him more credit about the great explanation and investigation he has done, and THEN say it's also a lot worse, more people would have listened to you. Right now, it just feels like click baity and that you are trying to say a guy is "wrong" (which he isn't) for no good reason.

@@todololo1037 I think the point is that though Megalag was right in saying that the cookie was changed on that particular transaction, the particular site shown in the example had been moved to a system where changing the cookie would only diminish, not nullify, the affiliate payment. It's a bit of a technical point but then: the whole video is very technical and if you aren't interested in the details, this maybe isn't the video for you.

It depends on the affiliate company. Howl only did allow one influencer click. So it you watched MKBHD clicked on the smartphone, didn't but then went back 2 days later and clicked Linus link. Linus would override the click. So he'd be the only influencer that got paid

And I had understood that depending on the website, any of them could be implemented but that the "default" is last click. Did I miss it or misunderstand?

As I said this video was mainly to expand on his. One that his example was in fact wrong. He said Linus didn't get credit for that sale and it went to Honey. But since I ran Newegg's program, that wasn't correct. Linus still got paid for that sale too. Two to give more examples of the 3 models, including the correct term, Any Click. Three to help people realized that i they thing Honey is bad, they're actually the smallest one that does this. This is important it's not Honey is the big one and there are others out there, it's more like Honey is just the beginning of finding out how big this is.

I never said anything positive about them in the video. It's just other brands are actually bigger and possibly worse. 4 - I don't work at Newegg anymore, I haven't since Feb 2024 5 - Howl has it's own issues with influencers, mainly new website is bad and not paying influencers on time. Wasn't relevant to the video, but I'm definitely not sponsored by them.
