Just wanted to thank you for posting this. Drove up from San Diego this weekend and had definitely not had ample time to plan out our trip beforehand. Did two and half days in the park and this video made it completely manageable for my family and I. I tweaked your itinerary slightly as my kids are very young and any sort of strenuous hike would be far too much for them. But we did get two full days of hiking in and the whole family loved it. Thanks again!

Everyone say these are roomy sleeping bags. I am 182cm and 100kg. Not particularly fat but quite sizeable around my shoulders, upperbody. I see other sleeping bags that has about an extra 10cm girth around the shoulders compared to these ones. Can anyone give me some advice on some other sleeping bags that is actually big! But at the same time possible for hiking around for a few days without having abnormal size or "camping with the car" kind of size? That would be much appreciated. For example Marmot trestles eco 20 and 30 x wide should be wider than all of these bags over the shoulders. I just struggle to understand and to find the specs for a bag that I could actually switch sides in without a complete struggle. Bought and returned one bag that was XL. When I zipped that one I was thinking this adventure that I plan for me and my wife is not going to happen after all. We have all gear except a sizeable bag for me...🥾⛺🎒

I don't know. To me any sleeping bag that is priced over 100 USD is considered overkill in my opinion. The higher the price is beyond that mark, the more true my statement becomes. 350-400+ dollars for a sleeping bag is outrageous.

I have a Deuce 2, and while it's true that it is a bit sharper around the edges, I don't think it's too uncomfortable to hold. It's best to start digging with the "handle", because that way you can use both hands to on the "shovel" side to get a good hole going, then switch it and dig out the rest. Have been carrying this around in one of the outer pockets of my backpacks, so far I haven't noticed that it cut through anything. I never had a U-Dig-It, though so I also cannot really compare the two. :D

Well the valley remains pretty nice and any of those trails to the waterfalls are pretty epic (but crowded). I like to snowshoe to Dewey Point from Badger Pass. The Mirror Lake Loop is another good snowshoe option (kzbin.info/www/bejne/fITQinqBhtt5hpY). Four Mile trail is usually closed, but taking it up to Glacier Point is amazing because no tourists are there. Sometimes Hetch Hetchy is open even if the valley rim roads aren't - that place is great (kzbin.info/www/bejne/hqnZqmiAl6Z1jbc). But again - the valley is amazing anytime - the valley Loop trial can get you to some great spots!

Good video. I stopped cooking on backing trips years ago unless I need to melt snow for water or if I need to separate silt from dirty water. Seems like 7 out of 10 times when I cook its either raining or I am swarmed by bugs or the wind is blowing swirling dust around making cooking a pain. Easier to leave the pot and stove stuff at home. I tried cold soaking and I am not fond of that either -- so I leave the spoon and cold soaking jar at home. I found if using a bear can I can get more calories into it if I don't bring along bulky dried and freeze dried foods. So I guess I am just getting lazy with my food menus.

Unfortunately, cold soaking requires food choices with too many carbs for me. I did however go stoveless on the Tahoe Rim Trail, and packed nuts, cheeses, olives, beef sticks, summer sausage, and a few bars and that seemed to keep me more than satiated (thanks to all the fat). I don't eat breakfast when hiking, but I missed my morning hot coffee, so I mixed up a Zipp Fizz every morning for my coffee fix. That seemed to do the trick. Kathy and I will be sharing a stove for the JMT, so I'll be looking forward to hot meals in the evenings. Still doing the Zipp Fizz for my morning fix though. Great video Doug!
