Honestly, try outside the box thinking of construction as a lot of people would use airplane design and construction techniques for spacecraft. Maybe switch to touch screen as space flight would be automated with voice control and use of large touch screens instead of switches and buttons. In lieu of rivets, glue on “heat tiles”. The sci-fi series, The Expanse, is a great show and the Razorback cockpit is an example of what your looking for.

This is insane! The fact that you plated the cockpit with real metal is amazing, and it looks great. It probably would have been cheaper to use foam board or some sort of plastic and paint it, but you had the budget, and you went for it! I think this is one of the coolest things on the internet.

Amazingly work. But way too many „hidden“ details. This looks/feels like it’s made for real life experience, not for a movie. In a film you’d build only what’s necessary and what’s best for certain angles. You got great production value here with real metal and stuff. Did you weather the outside a little?

This project has been on hold for many years. I will be starting production again in a few months. Sorry for the delay. There is currently no movie to watch because I still have to edit the movie along with quite a few special affects. Several have asked about the canopy. I purchased it off of ebay from a seller that was in my home state. He owned owned numerous plane/fighter parts. I made him an offer and he accepted it. I had to drive several hours to pick it up and barely fit it in my hatchback car. As far as cheaper ways of doing things. That will always be the case. But since i had no previous construction experience and was making it up as I went, I only used what I could purchase at Lowe's for the most part for materials.

And by the way, those of you that don't think it's a F-16 canopy, look up F-16 double seater and there are plenty of images. Its the rear canopy turned around.

Remember this is for filming. If you intend to take shots from inside the cockpit with the pilot in it, you need to create space for a wide angle camera too.

6:37 what's this? And where did you get those toggle switch boards!? Are they functional? I imagine that switches like this are simple enough to be mappable by some simple software.

Great build. I helped build a F111 cockpit for a USC movie, we barely got the look and had to bend thing clear styrene sheet to get the canopy luckily there werent too many curves. The use of sheet metal for cladding is amazing. but you could have cut your build time in a 3rd faking the metal. u must be a sheet metal guru.
@RSEFX
@RSEFX 4 жыл бұрын
Three years later I add a "yes" to that comment about faking the metail. Sheet styrene could've worked as well cheaper and faster, tho the metal finish would have to be painted-on, and might not look quite as authentic. But the time and money saved...I would've thought a very good alternative. But nice work nonetheless. A lot of talent here.

This is part of double seat version of F-16, probably F-16 B or D canopy, which is made of two glass parts. The rear part of this canopy is used, and flipped, so rear end is forward, to have nice round plexi in front of pilot. I think it is a great idea and a good example of "out of the box" thinking.

hello friend, I live in Brazil and I'm willing to ride my F-16 simualtor. But here everything is a problem, I find parts and equipment, will have to import everything. I see that you created almost everything. Where did you get the measures and the cockpit layout? You made of wood, how thick? What is the level of realism of your simulator? You sell schemes of your simulator? Gustavo

PantsuMann It'll come guys. Some things are worth waiting for and soon alpha 3.0 will be out. :) As for this, I hope in SC you can customize the cockpit views and allow API add-ons like Elite Dangerous for modded cockpit setups. There's a guy who has an entire room in his basement as a cockpit for ED using 3 projectors and various tablets for the cockpit controls. Would be great to have that for SC too and just flip between profiles. That could even be adapted to something like this. BTW, this kind of made me think of a viper from BSG. Loved the remake!

Watched all the cockpit videos. Nice job. I'm looking to build a starship cockpit interior to shoot on greenscreen, but with a collapsable body for easy storage or even make it in sections and lightweight. Any advice?
