Answer is not generic but it can planned and implemented in stepwise 1)Find what are process are running during the timestamp when you have slowness isssue 2) get the process details , find its sql text ,showplan you can do it by running enabling shell script in cron job sp_monitor and. capture all details 3) you need to check what re all tables are present while running these queries check query plan what kind of scanning are happening in table 4) find those tables check sp_spaceused table_name 5)check when was last time maintenance was performed 6) check CPU and memory utilization you can take help and get report from unix. this is very generic strategy based on this result we can take action..
