Growing up in Wyoming, we almost always had snow on the ground by Halloween. Retiring in Arizona has been wonderful. Even at 5200 feet in elevation, winters are mild. We usually get a few inches of snow per storm and three or four storms per winter. Pretty mild. The coldest temperature I've recorded on my little home weather station in the last five years is 1°F. It's rare that it's that cold here. Right now, we're still having highs in the 80°s and lows in the mid-50°s. Four distinct seasons. I have a brother near Minneapolis. I don't envy your winters. Happy flying, friend. 🫡 🍻

2 1/2 thousand views and only 28 likes this is when I say people on KZbin suck and don’t get the bigger picture you should have more likes! Awesome video. I worked at a vinyl shop many years back and love the concept of using vinyl as a mask. Many people don’t realize the benefits of using a plotter to mask for paint or sandblasting. I think another person on here asked about other ways to etch without sandblasting and I think that there’s a liquid that’s like an acid but has a weaker acidity and you paint it on and it just needs a little more time before removing. I don’t know if there’s an actual product like that. I just thought that I had seen something like this Somewhere along the line. Thanks for the short, concise video great information.

@mixerfistit55222 ай бұрын
The majority of the noise comes from the guard built into the housing. It's flat plastic so causes a lot of turbulence. I cut the 4 points around the guard to leave a clear hole for the fan and the noise is considerably lower (maybe filing the edges of the guards into curves could help too). You should really replace the guard with a proper metal one but I just left mine - it blows not sucks so nothing would likely catch in there unless I was very careless. That said, the 0/max setup of this fan is dumb and let's down a good unit. The lower speed on your one is more than enough for most uses. A fan that ramps up with the temperature using a thermistor would be ideal and is something I've considered but haven't bothered. Side note, check your cable for a good earth wire. My bundled cable was really cheap and nasty so I replaced it (I have the white T150, not sure if that's newer or older than the black one, I've had it years though)

Thanks for sharing these tests, Tommy. I'm always interested in the gear and methods other pilots employ when capturing video. In my experience with the 03 Air Unit, I'm happy with 1080p, 60FPS, GyroFlow instead of RockSteady EIS, and Color grading in DaVinci Resolve. I haven't experimented with ND filters. I have decided 1080p is good enough for most situations, and I don't have to deal with the hassles associated with 4K. I do still enjoy experimenting with 4K, but for day to day flying, it's a PITA. IMHO. Thanks for sharing your adventures. Happy flying amigo. 🫡 🍻

Yeah, that 03 is pretty solid. The Go2 is still the best alternative. I was hoping the Thumb2 would be as good but it's falling short and weights about the same. Still, it's fun to play with and perhaps others will share things about it in return. Thanks again Ox!

Thanks. It may not show much better that the Thumb Pros on a phone, but on a larger screen it's very noticeable. I've had reliability problems with the Thumb Pros, mainly they quit recording in mid- flight for seemingly no reason. Fingers crossed that this one won't do the same thing. It has given me a opportunity to make some new mounts though, which is kinda fun. The one that comes with the Thumb 2 is pretty minimal. Cheers ...

I watched it on my new 16" laptop screen and it looked REALLY great. I was checking out your camera mount too. Great job amigo! 🤠👍
@TommyTester2 ай бұрын
@@Sonic_Ox Thanks. I came up with this soft-mount idea a few years ago as the original GO and THUMB cameras had nasty jello problems. I've sold a lot of them on ebay. The design also allows the angle to be easily adjusted, plus the camera is less likely to be smashed to hell in a hard crash. As for image quality, I'm going to have to run a bunch of tests with various camera settings to more closely match what I get with GO2 class cameras.
@Sonic_Ox2 ай бұрын
Your design seems like a simple and elegant solution to the jello problem. I love it when things work out like that. Great job. Happy flying amigo. 🫡 🍻

Tommy, if you are still reading this: I guess I won't name products but I am trying to discover if I can use a hose end sprayer with a liquid product concentrate whose directions are to mix said concentrate 1/5 - 1 part product to 5 parts water with a backpack sprayer. Product doesn't specify sq ft it will cover. Well, anywhere from 700-2000 using a backpack sprayer depending on how heavy you lay it on. I would prefer the hose end sprayer for my project to a backpack sprayer. BTW, using your method I now know my settings for 1000 sq. ft. Thanks.

One important recommendation for quality is to only do half of the layer that you need when it's over a couple of inches. Put down one layer tamp and let it cure for a day. Then do the final layer. It will be more solid. The tamper can't compress like a roller can.

How do you prevent the loss of the control link when you go behind the buildings?
@TommyTester3 ай бұрын
The control signal does get reduced with any obstruction, be it structures or trees, as well as distance. There are also a variety of control systems you can pick from, with the more expensive ones offering longer range and better "penetration." That said, there is a point where control will be lost, so the level of signal strength is sent back to the pilot into their goggles and transmitter in real time so he knows how strong the control signal is being received by the quad, and usually a warning sound from the transmitter will alert him before control is lost. Good question.

@TommyTester3 ай бұрын
The thermostat is just a switch. Bypass by jumpering a wire between the 2 wires attached to the thermostat. The compressor will run if there are no other issues.

@@TommyTester Thank you SO MUCH! I have two of these, and they both had stopped working. The current price for an OEM replacement is north of $300! I jumped them both, and they both fired up. I bought the same switch you did, and received them today. The only difference I noticed was that the original switch included a ground, while the replacement does not have any connection for a ground. What did you do about that?
