Nope! way to small and dangerous to hold up a gas bottle. They need to be chained up for safety. This was just a waste of time and effort.

I’ve made a coal fired forge out of a steel extinguisher but yours looks like aluminum. I cut a door the length of the extinguisher and put some heavy hinges and a handle on it. I drilled holes in a heavy pipe about 1.5 inches apart and capped one end a threaded the other end of the pipe into the hole at the top and welded it into place. The I threaded fittings from the outside that I could connect directly to my air compressor. I then put in a couple of layers of heavy steel screen over the pipe which was made as low as I could put it. I then made a stand but I won’t go into detail because this is such an old video. To finish it off I started a coal fire to cover the length of the extinguisher. I close the hatch and pushed some air thru it with the compressor. When the fire was burning well I started blasting air thru the piping. The results were that I created a blast furnace that was hotter than hell. The first file I put in it was basically consumed by the fire in less than then minutes. I’ve been making lousy knives with this thing for years and someday I might make a good one. You can’t beat a coal fire and an air compressor for a poor man’s forge. I can also put 20 pounds of range lead in a fire extinguisher pot and go away for a half hour until the smoking stops. Scoop off the dross and pour it into muffin tins for reloading. Talk about HOT! You had better watch yourself. I get all the fire extinguishers I could ever use from a shop near me for nothing and select only the very old steel ones that no longer worthy to be refilled. Most of the extinguishers I get are turned into cool sounding wind chimes. Yep.. I’m screaming into the wind again!!

One other thing you could have done is used rod to weld cast with.i know that NAPA Auto parts, has rod to weld cast-iron and with some preheat (just to dull red stage)will give you very good results.after you have laid down your bead, keep your torch heat on it and gradually pull your heat away. DO NOT COOL QUICKLY good luck I know this sounds a lot but cast is interesting stuff.cheers!
