Holy shit what a bad ass solo. Ahead of its time too.

Cannonball was one of the greatest and great to listen to. Better than Parker?
@LarryLenau2 жыл бұрын
Virtuosically, Cannonball was certainly better. I don't doubt that. From a historical perspective though, Bird's genius is unmatched. He practically invented bebop in his mid-twenties. Cannonball built upon the foundation which Bird laid. It's never easy comparing two players from different periods with different styles, but it is easy to recognize Bird as the father of modern jazz. Just my two cents and I'm sure others will have varying opinions. It's the same discussion as Bird vs. Stitt, Bird vs. Coltrane, etc.

Wow! If I were to have a blindfold test, I would have swore that it was Paul Desmond being excited!

Thanks, great record, great solo. I don't think, however, they're playing a dominant (C7) before the bridge, no matter how logical it would seem.
@LarryLenau4 жыл бұрын
Yes, in retrospect it would seem to be Bb7 being "subverted" to F on the bridge

What do the circles over some of the D's mean?
@LarryLenau4 жыл бұрын
It equates to "open" middle D fingering. Play a C# and add the high D palm key. It is noticeably thinner tone-wise. Sonny Stitt ends a lot of phrases using this alternate fingering.

Nice but, so far I like the spin Ernie Watts put on the tune the most so far, starts here at 8:30 kzbin.info/www/bejne/hHmTcolrn9ySns0 . He really turned it into his own by easing into it smoothly before "bamming" on the keys, I'm definitely planning on transposing it.

cant even compare to cannonball
@qq-hk2sqАй бұрын
@@joeyumansky2189 It depends on who's ears you're listening with and what you're listening for. I just listened to Cannonball's solo and it didn't change anything for me. If your avatar is of the cat with short floppy ears and a weird shaped head there's one of those roaming my neighborhood and I can't catch a good head shot of him on any of my security cameras during the nights he comes through, it's always a top or back of the head view, unless it's characteristic of the breed it has an atypical gate suggesting it might be pretty old. It does look healthy size wise.
