When you went down, it sounded like a part of a score of a movie.

Im asked the following for an audition : scales will be followed by either an arpeggio, a Dominant 7th arpeggio built on the 5th degree of the scale, or a Diminished 7th arpeggio built on the 7th degree of the scale, and will resolve to the tonic. My question is when should I use the 7th chord built on 5th degree and when should the 7th chord built on 7th degree be used instead ? Does it matter ? Can both be used whenever? Should the diminished 7th built on 7th degree be used with minor scales only or it doesnt matter? Ive tried them both on the piano before resolving on the tonic and they both sound great, but maybe in harmony they have specific roles I should know? Thanks alot for this useful video.

Please forgive what may be a foolish question from a guitarist who has come later in life to the flute ... So does what you say imply that mastering the mouth-shape for the second harmonic will help to nail the root note third octave? That could be very helpful indeed for me as I find that third octave difficult to get any kind of nice tone. Any way, thank you so much - your video is very clear and helpful!

Hi there! I’m working on this etude for an audition and your video helped tremendously, especially playing the subdivisions in between with the metronome. I’m struggling with keeping the piece musical but not sounding metronomic with the changes from duple to triple. Do you have any tips?

What tempo is this at? And what tempo would you recommend? Thank you
@JessicaBanksFlute7 жыл бұрын
I would recommend that you play it at a tempo where you can play the notes and rhythms cleanly. My preferred tempo is about 58 to the dotted quarter or 174 to the eighth note. This might be too fast if you can't make it sound smooth and clean. Try to think about creating a smooth flowing sound like water in a fountain (as per the title ;) ) Happy practicing!
