I worked the Val Dora as a teenager doing the chips, Peter Corvi was the owner, across on the Gallowgate is the coronation, Guido Corvi (cousins) owned it, and down in the Saltmarket was Argie's, another cousin, that was in the 60s, apart from Argie's, the Val D and the coronation ate still owned by the same family. The coronation has been refurbished but the Val D has stayed the same. I much prefer the coronation now.

Looks like one I’m going to have to visit at some point 🤙

Great wee review! Great to see places like this making an effort in the Barras area! I would recommend a walk round the barras for those that haven’t been for a while, you would see a great and positive change. Keep up the great work guys.

I was in that chip shop in 1987 with my sister and my niece at Xmas time. The big guy that used to own it with the bald head got into an argument with a customer who hit the owner in the face with a binder and the owner threw him right through the plate glass window onto the street. It was like a scene out of Hollywood. I'll never forget it. 😂

Oh fk how could i forget when i was a kid the other cafe across the road the criterion dont know what it was called then but it was blue green think he owned that not sure though this one always orange my mum would say lets go get food then the barras i would always say i want the orange one she prefered the other for the mince and tatties and peas my boy was always the same he would tantrum if i said mcdonalds he wanted the orange chippy he still the same as an adult chippy over mcdonalds 😂😂

Been going hear I think forever lol bus to argyle Street walk about the shops then walk to chippy get the chips and a buttered roll and eat it walking to the baras my mum done it with us I met my ex wife in the Barrasford bar our first meal was sitting in there that night in 1997 I took my kids there my boy nickname is reco and the big man loved it, that was 2001 its a place that's been there through out was actually there couple week ago way my girlfriend and she is fae the milk so it was her first time the seat you sat in is the one seat I always sit at whenever I have a sit down chippy because the big man is so full of patter it's the best seat because the serve counter is just beside you but no too close to people cueing and coming in and out the door but close enough you get to be part of the banter ❤😂😂😂

The place would be 1,000 times better if they sorted out those bloody tunes…even Orange flute band tunes would be an improvement over that pish! 😵🤦🏻‍♀️

I spent my childhood living at the top of the building, goldmine on a early sat or Sun morning for us kids as we were always finding ten bob notes (50p) on the pavement outside the Star Bar. I have so many happy memories of that place. I have tried to find photos of the shops and the general area from the late 60's early 70's so far no luck. the area has like most of Glasgow changed so much in my lifetime

A chippy which doesn't remove the bones from the haddock can never claim to be the best chippy. Nice fella but absolutely nobody wants bones with their fish supper.
