Vladimir Ashkenazy is a hero in my book, but listening to his Bach in the twilight of his glorious career is as painful as watching Joe Biden's debate with Trump. He is visibly struggling even with this music that can be played by a seven year old. Why the score? Why the frequent glances at the score and his hands? The tempo is moderate as someone remarked, but this is too slow to be virtuosic, but too fast to dance to. The gavotte involves jumping steps, which limit the tempo because you cannot change gravity.

This is delightful! Ashkenazy is one of the few pianists who can play Bach without too much resonance and muddiness, the best being Gould, then Ashkenazy, the Argerich, in my opinion. It’s impossible to say who’s the “best ever,” it’s just my opinion that these three play Bach the best on piano!

First I listened to his great recording of Scriabin's Prometheus op.60 and the Piano Concerto in f#-minor op.20 - which was very important for me for a long time - and now I'm very happy to hear him playing BACH ;-) Thank you !!!

I did'nt know Ahskenazy play Bach.It is a good surpriese. He is a complet pianist.
