I'm new to procreate. My question is how do you fill the crystal ball without filling in the whole canvas with color?
@TheArtisticScroll3 ай бұрын
@@Syx696 welcome to Procreate! 😊 If colour is spilling out of the shape on your canvas, it’s likely either because: 1) Your shape hasn’t been closed properly (there’s still a small gap in the outline somewhere that needs to be completed before filling in the colour), OR 2) Your threshold for colour-filling needs to be adjusted. Try this next time - when you drag the colour from the colour menu into your shape, don’t lift your pencil off the screen. You’ll notice a thin blue bar appear on the top of the canvas screen with “Colour Threshold %” written on it. If you then drag your pencil (without lifting it off the screen yet) to the LEFT, your threshold will decrease, and colour should start limiting itself to the shape. If you drag your pencil to the RIGHT, the threshold will increase and colour is more likely to fill in all the gaps and spill out. You can adjust your colour filling capacity with every shape and brush, whenever you need to. I’ve explained all these details and basics in my free Procreate Essentials course (Lively Landscapes). The link’s in the video description if you want to join 😊

I have a question: when I go to select the vertical edge layer and then tap on the occlusion shadow layer the selection is automatically removed. The second I tap on the layer selection, it's gone 🥺 what am I missing? 😭
@TheArtisticScroll3 ай бұрын
Oooh okay, let’s see - when you tap select on the vertical shadow layer’s side menu, is the “Add” button highlighted blue in the lower left corner of the selection menu at the bottom (like on the screen here at 38:20)? And is the selection set at Freehand? If so, when you reopen the layers menu and go straight to the occlusion shadow clipping mask layer and tap on it to work on that layer, and then tap on the layers button on top to exit the layers menu, does the selection still go away?
@CrystalRuby923 ай бұрын
@@TheArtisticScroll the add button is blue, it is set to freehand but the selection goes away the second I tap on the layers menu. Like, I tap on the layers menu to open it and the selection immediately goes away, before I can selection the occlusion shadow layer.
@TheArtisticScroll3 ай бұрын
@@CrystalRuby92 Hmm, seems like Procreate is having issues with handling selections when switching tools and layers. Perhaps we can try this and see: Instead of trying to go back to the Layers menu directly, use the “three-finger swipe down” gesture to bring up the copy-and-paste menu. With the copy-and-paste menu still open and the selection active, tap on the “Layers” icon at the top right to open the Layers menu. The selection should remain active. In the Layers menu, lightly tap on the occlusion shadow clipping mask layer to activate it and draw on that. Alternatively, check what the “Selection Mask visibility” number is set to in your Preferences tab in the Actions menu (the wrench icon). Mine’s around 25%. Also, try tapping lightly on the screen and see if that helps? Sometimes, tapping hard on the screen can remove the selection. And do check to see if your Procreate app has been updated to the latest version too. Let me know if these help at all 😊

I finished this one over a few days some hours a day. I am a fully beginner, especially in digital art. Thank you for your work! It was fun to follow your instructions, but.. In my opinion you was a bit fast at some points :D Not that bad, but I had to rewind a few times. And a tip for the brush size would be very nice. Maybe an extra video for the brush settings that you use, without to have shaky lines. The Sketch was really helpfull.
@TheArtisticScroll4 ай бұрын
@@metalpanda261 Yayyy!! Congratulations on finishing the illustration! 🎉 It’s a really long one and you did well completing it, especially as a beginner! It’s completely alright to feel like tutorials are too fast sometimes and you need to rewind. I rewinded so many videos (and still do) while I was learning new concepts in art, because it’s hard to grasp them all in the first go. Slowing videos down while watching helps a lot too, as well as making notes about your main struggle points. So trust me, you’re doing great! Keep going 👍🏼 Regarding the brush sizes - most of the brushes I use (Technical Pen, Soft Airbrush, Syrup) are pressure-sensitive. Which means that if I use a smaller brush size and apply more pressure, it’s probably going to produce a similar result as a bigger size brush with lesser pressure of the pencil on the iPad screen. So the best practice while using such kind of brushes is to get familiar with the feeling of what works better for you. If you’re more light-handed, try going for a bigger brush size, and vice-versa. Eventually, you’ll develop the skill to be able to modulate your brushstrokes with varying amounts of pressure. So that’s why I don’t really recommend sticking to just one brush size in my videos. But it’s great that you’re questioning this, because it means you’re thinking in the right direction ✨ And to avoid shaky lines with any of your brushes, you can tap on the brush you want to modify > select “Stabilisation” in the Brush Library menu on the left > increase the “Streamline Amount” to 100% (or what works for you). I only make this single modification in my Technical Pen and Syrup brushes for more stability. Hope this helps! 😊

Another one done and dusted. It looks soo good! It is also great to be problem solving on the go, for example, the difference between 1% and 2% size of my soft airbrush made it impossible to complete the sunrays, BUT it make me experiment with some other brushes and found a great alternative. Just one suggestion - as my eyes are generally on my iPad rather than the video, it can be a little confusing when you refer to "this colour" or "this yellow", I always have to go back and watch to see which exact colour you are referring too. Perhaps a little extra description or "the first yellow" etc. Just my thought! Keep up the great videos!
