Even by Orson's standards, this is one weird film.

Many years ago I had the privilege to meet a talk with Mr. Dunn. He was most gracious and invited me to work with his company. Great guy. I worked for him for just a short while but what an experience it was. Another fellow who was there was Cecil Love. He explained that he and Mr. Dunn had worked on King Kong in 1933. The building was like a museum. There was a miniature set from West Side Story and giant reels of 70mm film just sitting on tables. The equipment was state of the art for the 1970s however he told me that Computers would make his Film Effects of Hollywood obsolete in a few years. It was all in all a magical experience.

The MOVIE DID NOT JUST END!!! There was the whole Singing In The Rain scene and the Rest Of The Movie.

Interesting...but part of the reason Lina is made fun of is that she really isn't talented. She is pretty, and could get by in silent films because of her looks, but in the talkies she doesn't have the chops. Don, bad behavior aside, CAN make the transition. Some of the other minor women characters can, as well. But Lina will be left behind. And she makes herself so unpleasant to be around that nobody really cares. Could she have been written better? Probably. Could Don have been presented in a more understanding, caring way? Sure. But I think the film holds up pretty well, considering. Thanks for the interesting take on the female characters.
