Holy shit. I'm so glad you got this album, 100% one of the greatest collabs I've ever heard. Rob and Sonic just tear these ethereal beats up. And with what you said, Rob is one of the few that competes with aes. Great vid

He's on the cusp of death. He's at the gates. Not quite dead, but not quite alive. He's transitioning, he's a ghost, he's lingering. He's listing the ways we all die. He's letting us know the journey is about to begin. The journey into the afterlife.. if accepting. Much Love. Big ups bro.

His older stuff is harder to understand than his new stuff, mainly because his voice is much clearer on his records now.

i dig this video.... its hard to find Sage Francis reactions. he's on my top 5 person favorite rappers... my favorite is hard but Im pretty sure its "Escape Artist". Can you cover it? another good one people probably wouldnt think about is "Got Up This Morning" (which i have on vinyl cause its one of my favorite albums of all time and the only sage i could find on vinyl at that time.). Him, Aesop, Cudi, Eminem (kinda by default since he's my main entry for serious rap) and now Kendrick which I had on vinyl but still some how slept on. Sorry I know this vid is old and might not get scene but its hard to find much on him.

Love the vid. One thing though, God did state the consequences of eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. "Genesis 2:17 ESV [17] but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

Brother i would absolutely love to hear you react to some of chris webby's new songs. Hes from my home state of CT, and highly underrated in his wordplay and delivery. The Lost wednesday album is sick because its a bunch of old verses that he then added new verses to. So a lot of it is basically "chris webby ft. Chris webby". Top tier classic hip hop imo

Great vid but bruh, puhleeze normalize your volumes - your FUCK YEAH MURICA bit was easily twice the volume you speak at and I was watching this at like 2am. Otherwise, 10/10 analyzing. Aes is so directly abstract that it's like an auditory inkblot session to dissect his lyrics - it's interesting how you have similar-yet-entirely-different interpretations to my own, for the same handful of words for any given line

@@shanemcdaniels The whole album is told from the POV of Aes as demon and a such is the meanest demon on the plane. "No lie, tell death he could get in line K, hellspawn, I'm no joke" Death? Fuck outtta here, I got real shit to deal with and death is quaint, K hellspawn? You run tell death he has to get in line now. And you have to be one tough, dumb cat to talk about the time you took the second bite from a glue stick but slaughtering gods and still clean enough for formal tea is "Ya that's cool but I ate a glue stick once.. in 2 bites. True story.""

Can't go wrong with Aes. I always felt these songs break up the intensity of the project and give the listeners ears a rest.

Real jazzy beat from Aesop on this one. I like these short little darkly humorous songs that have peppered his recent albums. They remind me of a hip-hop Shel Silverstein.
@anthonyv6962Ай бұрын
Shel Silverstein moved in many circles from the Playboy Club and writing for the mag to Cash and Where the Sidewalk Ends. I'm sure his life was even more diverse than that.

@@anthonyv6962 Yeah, I'm a big fan of Shel. His humor was so distinctive.

Maybe when he repeatedly mentions the trap he's referencing the more simple approach to song writing to poke fun at the trap genre? "Shit its probably a trap." Then at the end "its probably just you motherfuckers missed..." either dismissing the idea of sticking to that style or acknowledging that anyone will even catch on to the shade. Maybe both.
@dzy7573Ай бұрын
I've said it before lol that's what really gives abstract such longevity you can find a different message every time.

I highly recommended checking out Broken Window by Rhyme Asylum, it's probably their best song and one of the best songs in general when it comes to storytelling, also if you wanna get into UK hip hop I recommend you check out Jam Baxter, he's very similar to Aesop in his use of cryptic metaphors and imagery

It's possible to probable that someone else has already said this, but based on your noticing of the dog killing the rabbit just now, you may have also missed how the book the kids were reading said a portal to the spirit world opens if a creature from that side is killed over here, its definitely an interesting concept (^-^)

I think the Van Gogh instant rice line is referring to that fact that painting is often seen as the marker for his mental decline and change in artwork. In this context the line makes much more sense as Aes often comments on his own age and how he has changed and perhaps dulled over time (although I have yet to see any dullness from him). I’m no art student so if anyone can correct me, I’m working off memory here.

I want to point out that greasy grimy gopher guts is from a children's song, and that gathering animals and then letting them go is the plot to a short children's book. So, I think that much of this song has to do with his upbringing.

Subbed ya, it's refreshing seeing someone who 'gets' Sadistik. Since you have reacted to Sadistik and Aesop, you should check "Castles" with them and CunninLynguists. Sadistik has done 2 albums with Kno, CunninLynguists producer, and both are fantastic. In all honesty, you really ought to just check his library lol. You could do "Sadistik Saturday" and have content for a while (he is regularly dropping new material too).

The greatest thing about Aes and abstract art in general is how it is largely open to interpretation. Just reading through this comment section I'm like "I never thought about it like that but yeah 🤯." Then the next comment is a different angle and I'm like "I never thought about it like that either but also yeah 🤯"

If you look around the tubescape you'll notice there aren't many aesop rock analytical essays. The most abstract song I've seen (before this) is "cycles to gehenna." So kudos for taking on the challenge that not many will. Love to see it.
