as long as you're using the main body and shoulder you'll be fine. don't move the head and don't reach out with the arm above the water

Should the EB kick be done only counter clockwise or can it be done clockwise as well? thanks
@MyoFit Жыл бұрын
realistically, one leg will always be clockwise and one leg counter so yes to both! The leg needs to generate force into the water so focus on that, pressing the lower leg down into the water to raise the hips and body

Hi, I've always been taught to keep my shoulders square to the shooter when shotblocking and my shotblocking hand even with my ear. In other words, coaches make sure my hand is neither out in front of me or trailing me. However, in the initial shotblocking stage of this excersize it appears your left hand is behind the rest of your body. Is this preferred?
@MyoFit2 жыл бұрын
Yeah you're correct. The hand behind was an older idea. You have 2 options, square to shooter to cover more shooting space (mostly on the perimeter) and shoulder protecting the face (6on5). Slide the blocking arm slightly in front of the body so that the shoulder and arm can move across the face in case of a shot near the head. Probably the worst thing you can do is wave at the shot and mess up your goalie. Hold a stable position, move to the shot with body and arm, but don't swing at the ball. Trust your goalie

This actually incorrect, one leg needs to be down to get lift. To get separation you do need to jump over your hips, but should not lose balance by pointing both legs horizontally.
@MyoFit3 жыл бұрын
We don't use "lift" when talking about movements in water anymore. "Compression" and "drag" are appropriate terms and better explain how forces are applied. The video does include the transition to to a vertical lunge so I'm not sure if you got to the part where the bottom leg opens up underneath the body? We've worked on this movement with collegiate and professional players and balance usually isn't an issue after 10-15 reps. This isn't an easy skill but a little bit of practice will improve the motion pretty quickly

show actual play speed not slow motion
@MyoFit5 жыл бұрын
When you look at bad technique at play speed from athletes with limited technical instruction it's pretty sloppy. When I'm in shape (not right now) this looks the same at 90-110 RPM. When I'm out of shape my ankle does a weird flutter thing that is sloppy. This is the ideal motion to produce the most power.
@theswimclub85825 жыл бұрын
@@MyoFit seems slow though... If an athlete can perform egg beater efficiently it does not matter if his form is not exact ... If it works it's good.... I cannot perform the egg beater although I can swim efficiently
@MyoFit4 жыл бұрын
@@theswimclub8582 what matters is if you perform the motion properly at lower speeds and work up to full speed you'll be less sloppy than someone who doesn't focus on technique. In a game, you shouldn't be thinking about eggbeater. Train so it is correct in practice and focus on the opponent during the game.

Kinda. You can push against a solid surface like a wall but that would be isometric. Not as effective overall.

What are your thoughts on a two center forward/hole system when not playing man down?
@MyoFit5 жыл бұрын
I had 3 strong centers a couple years ago, one was a lefty. We played a double post for most of our offense. A good double post is also effective at canceling a drop cuz only 2 defensive players are on top.
@MyoFit5 жыл бұрын
If you have a player that can drive to post from a wing then you can shift the center to the far post and isolate the drive post. pretty effective if you have players that can maintain body position or against a team with weak role players

Do you have any recommendations for increasing jumping height?
@MyoFit6 жыл бұрын
You really need to focus on making sure your legs and feet are in the proper EB positions from the video first. Then, add more 2-leg lunge kicks to training, vertical and forward lunges. If your EB doesn't have power your lunge won't have power. Make little improvements every practice
@androidkenobi6 жыл бұрын
for the hip hinge stretch, we pair up and stand behind each other to hold the person's hips so they don't fall over, so we can really make a good L shape without rolling the back

Ya that works. The hip hinge might be the most important exercise in the whole program

How many days does it take generally to learn the eggbeater? I have started trying the egg beater kick today. I can’t keep my head out of water as yet. The instructions here are very helpful. Thanks.
@MyoFit6 жыл бұрын
I've noticed the older you get the harder it is to learn. Kids can alternate their kick in a few days. Adults can take weeks. It's all muscular so follow the video instructions and focus on one thing at a time and you'll pick it up soon
@srirambalasubramanian73706 жыл бұрын
Beyond Water Polo Thanks for the reply. My height is 5 feet 10 inches. I practice in 5 feet water. My feet touch the water in every kick. May be I shouldn’t kick deep. Whats your opinion? There is 10 feet water in one side of the pool, but with the little freestyle that I know, I don’t want to risk. I surely want to be persistent and learn the eggbeater even if it takes several weeks as I like it as it is the most efficient way to tread water.
@MyoFit6 жыл бұрын
In shallow water push against the wall. Angle your hips and legs so they don't touch the bottom. Use the eggbeater videos here to improve your range of motion. There are videos on freestyle also if you want to work on that!

If you have a coach have them watch the videos. They may be able to see some things that will help you improve. It's really hard to self-coach.

It's great to see that you're uploading videos again! While my coach introduced the step out, I couldn't figure out why I was getting so little separation. As it turns out, I was making the exact mistake you mentioned in the video. I'm looking forward to trying this out in practice. Would it be possible for you to make a video about doing the step out when looking to make a pass?
@MyoFit7 жыл бұрын
Gonna film 3 point ball protection soon. You might have a small lunge. Work on lunging left and right away from a defender instead of backward. keep your hips near the surface and lunge for distance. I’ll try to get some video for that.
@steven-hf1wk7 жыл бұрын
how could a defender counter act this? frontmarking i presume
@MyoFit7 жыл бұрын
fronting as long as the other players press the perimeter well. As a defender, you don't want the center to be able to snap directly into your chest. Anticipate the snap, rotate your shoulders and let the snap energy slide across your chest rather than push directly backward. Keep your hands out of the water to show the ref you aren't pulling back.

The ankle turn will help you keep your legs up in the water and will improve your agility and head-up swimming. This is good for all swim phases such as counter attack and driving. The chest turn is useful when there is a turnover during the counter attack. The hip turn is a bit of a preference that really depends on if you are comfortable with it. Similar to the chest turn but you keep your legs high in the water.
@darkplato10 жыл бұрын
What are the benefits and scenarios that you would use each of these turns in a game of water polo? Thanks!
