I just saw it on Amazon. You might be able to get it from Thrift book stores for cheaper. Seems like the book is out of print so you'll have to buy a used book and depending on the availability, prices might vary. My copy is also used but in great condition and since I got it from a local stock clearance sale, it was super cheap.

These are Sennelier oil pastels. Possibly the creamiest oil pastels available. It depends on the brand... Most student-grade pastels are hard and crumbly...

Just cut the tip of the oil pastel a bit, and there you go, a cylindrical head... Use the edge of that cylinder, to get fine details
@DeshArt4 ай бұрын
That can waste pastel and pigment and even if you sharpen a pastel, you can't get a pointy point to draw thin lines.
@souptikchakraborty20044 ай бұрын
@@DeshArt nah...i meant that, when you use a pastel, the tip becomes rounded, right ? So cut it off, and you get a flat tip (much like the oil pastel is, when you buy the box)... Now use the edge of the flat tip to draw fine lines...it seriously works
@souptikchakraborty20044 ай бұрын
@@DeshArt there's another way (but this ones a bit more expensive, cuz it wastes a bit of the oil pastel) Rub one end of the oil pastel's tip on a paper, until the other end gets chisled. Then draw fine lines with the chisled end
@DeshArt4 ай бұрын
@@souptikchakraborty2004 Thanks for the tips. I guess it works although, it's not that easy to get fine lines with the edge of a flat tip. Even if you do, the edge will wear off on the first rub itself. It might be easier with hard oil pastels. With something creamier, it will be even harder.
@DeshArt4 ай бұрын
@@souptikchakraborty2004 By rubbing the tip on paper, you can get a pointy end but not as pointy as a pen and at the cost of wasting a lot of pastels. I want to get pencil-line-like thinness here. I don't think that's achievable using the pastel itself.
@mikiim57394 ай бұрын
Thank you for your tips. Could you please tell me the rational behind the acrylic wash for oil pastels? I've seen artists put a light brown wash for acrylic paintings but this is the first time I'm seeing the same for oil pastels. Thank u for ur time
@DeshArt4 ай бұрын
Acrylic is a permanent paint, and it does not interact with oil pastels. This makes it a perfect medium for underpaintings. You can use watercolors too. Or even a harder oil pastel brand. I usually don't paint the whole thing using oil pastels. If you check out the oil pastel paintings on my channel, you'll see that this is the method I almost always use.

@@IanCullen Yes I LOVE Sennelier.
@ivypearl38955 ай бұрын
You have clearly made a very substantial financial investment in Sennelier. So, it’s understandable that you seem invested in making them better on minor points like the wrapper or the reds not being the same. Mungyo has many more colors, including reds that you don’t own. So, saying their reds are not as good is unfair. You did not mention how loose Sennelier’s wrappings are or that not being able to layer is a major downside to doing entire works with them. Enjoy your Sennelier’s. I’m sure they are lovely. But this video seemed unfairly biased.
@DeshArt5 ай бұрын
I only spent 10$ for this set of Sennelier. It was bought using a gift voucher after reading 100s of reviews on what a good oil pastel brand is. It was a good investment, but I did not pay for it off my pocket and my reviews are not based on how much money I spent on the set. I don't have the Mungyo 72 set but are you saying they offer more brighter reds in those bigger sets? Because a lot of artists believe that Mungyo oil pastels have whites added into some pigments to get that opaque consistency. This is generally how you get opaque colors. So naturally, the brightness of the colors is dulled a little. This is a prominent drawback of Mungyo... As I said in the review, for a mid-range oil pastel brand, Mungyo is probably the best. But it is not a substitute to Sennelier.
@DeshArt5 ай бұрын
Oh and I also prefer the wrapping style of Sennelier. Loose but not falling off the pastel. It's perfectly user-friendly... All these factors contribute to it being a high-end brand. :)

I love the idea of keeping warm colors in one case; cool colors in the other. Right now, mine are separted into two cases - watercolor pencils in one, and regular colored pencils in the other. I keep my pastel pencils separated.

Hi! Do you still have these paintings? How are they doing after four years? Have they cracked at all? Would be wonderful to have an update on this video because what we’re all wondering is how these varnishes perform overtime :-) thank you!
@DeshArt8 ай бұрын
It's a question I get asked a lot. All of these blocks are looking just as original. I do not see a significant change. I will consider doing a full video on this soon and also about achievability and lightfastness. I know a lot of artists worry about these qualities when buying supplies, but I give them the least priority. Most artwork done using student-grade supplies endure at least a decade before they start fading, if they ever do. Lightfastness is a measure of time and that time is in decades if not centuries.... So, for regular hobbyist artists, I don't see a real value in investing twice as much for lightfast products.
