80% of the community have objected to this scheme. 180 objection letters were sent in to be used in the consideration process but many were cast aside (?) and 29 letters in favour used instead? How is thst democratic? A ratio of 6:1 AGAINST but the council voted in favour of it - going against the wishes of the community they serve. The planned Sports Hub/Football Academy (we aren't sure which it is) is an ugly urban 2-storey eyesore with multiple windows overlooking the kiddies play area and outdoor gym? Parents are not happy about this! The council are saying it will be for 'all the community to use' but will it, if it will morph into a young boys' football academy once built? We only wanted a small park building with toilets and a cafe fir all the community to use. It appears this plan is for something different to the publicised scheme as it shows as n abundance of toilets, shower cubicles, changing rooms and classrooms on the plans??? Is that 'for the community'? The artificial pitch will most likely be made from toxic rubber crumb, a waste product from used car tyres which have been found to be a health hazard, causing cancers in young sports users - see Amy Griffin - ex-player and now a coach in America. These pitches are already bannedin many European countries. They leech poisonous toxins into the ground which destroys any and all wildlife and nature, contaminating the water and carried on through the water table underground - it cannot be removed. Only 20% of the local community have any interest in football and wish to preserve Ashton Park as s natural habitat for birds and wildlife. Football is played on the grass pitches which need drainage. They play in Winter - they dont need artificial toxic rubber pitches with floodlighting and fences. Ashton Park has been chosen for destruction by rich corporations who have no connection to the park ir this area - they're ignoring the People. The park is surrounded by housing estate some if which are classed as deprived, yet the council is depriving the community if its beautiful parkland - there is nit much else in Ashton. The schools within a mile all house foitball pitches, Cottam Sports Arena is an almost identical sports hub down the road, used by Uclan university with a running track, 9 football pitches, mostly fenced and floodlit, a spirts centre with amebities and courts fir Tennie, basketball etc ..... READY MADE ....a mile away - we do not NEED to destroy a public park to build an identical unwanted urban block and dirty unhealthy pitches to fund the private enterprise rich businessmen. The Levelling Up Fund should be used for the benefit of tge community but somehiw its been hijacked to enable corporations & big companies to make money for themselves in a 'stuff what the people want' arrogant, spoilt rich brat mentality. No wonder the Levelling Up Fund title is being dropped by deputy leader if Labour party Angela Rayner - its tarnished because of the high levels of corruption, which has seen many enquiries by govt select overseeing committees into business irregularities. The park was left to the people then 'sold' to the council??? Now, as we see so often, its being handed over to corporate business ! It should not be allowed. The park is well used by the lical people but the plans will take 60+% of the park away from the community, leaving just a strip of land along the side - which isout of order! Labour council should have said NO to Ashton and instead put it on Moor Park, where the Dick Kerr Ladies Football team played, next door to PNE ( which has its fingers in this scheme anyway ! Its in Deepdale - nothing to do with Ashton again!)

I grew up near Clitheroe and was stunned when Michael Carr won the seat for the Liberal Democrats in 1990. Never in my life would I have believed it was possible for Labour to win the Ribble Valley. I still can't get my head around it over a week later.

But still no affordable apartments. They're building something similar a few hundred yards away on manchester road. Preston is becoming gentrified. The feeling of being a lonely local will only get worse when we see non-locals living in such swanky apartments, whilst the true citizens languish in sub-standard rentals.

If Hamas had not planned and executed attacks on innocent young people in Israel, the subsequent military actions and the broader escalation of violence might have been averted. Such attacks only serve to perpetuate the cycle of conflict, leading to further suffering for both Palestinians and Israelis. It's essential for all parties involved to seek peaceful resolutions and to prioritise the safety and well-being of civilians. Michael Lavalette's refusal to condemn Hamas or the attacks on October 7 became a barrier to achieving a ceasefire.
@carlstein33492 ай бұрын
I'm sad for everyone on both sides, this spiral of violence just keeps going on down through the generations. If I were (I'm not) an Israel leader I'd have licked my wounds and took the global sympathy to focus on Iran and Hamas hiding in Qatar. If I were (I'm not) a Palestinian I'd have worked to throw off the shackles of Hamas - Free Palestine from Hamas. I've seen convincing evidence of both sides doing harm, so I agree with some of what Lavalette said. However, none of the causes or solutions exists in Preston, it should be a non-issue, it should be easy to denounce violence without excuses or apologist or justification and the question could have been asked and answered in 20 seconds with 6 "yes" and the time spent on what can be solved locally. I have 3 fears: the Preston Jewish community feeling unable to be "out and proud", the Muslim community being attacked by basically "gammons" and it all distracting us from what we all wish to solve - potholes, NHS, etc. Of the 6 replies, Neil Darby most accurately matches my own views, he did right to denounce Lavalette's refusal to denounce Hamas and their actions.
@rody6922 ай бұрын
@@carlstein3349 Councilor Neil Darby did the right thing; this kind of clarity is essential in building a foundation for peace and security. It's crucial to foster an environment where all community members feel safe and supported, free from fear of attacks or discrimination. We should also stay focused on addressing local issues that directly affect our daily lives, like healthcare and infrastructure.

Are for real. Israel has been killing Palestinians since their creation. What you can expect from Palestine to sit down and watch their loved one killed. There is no such thing as Israel. Palestine gives them a safe place and they instantly create their own country with the other powers.
