I know what's the problem. When you yarn over and pull through the hook, your hook head should be facing downwards, which means the head shoud facing towards the knot you made.

You can make the body bigger : R4 (3sc, inc, 3sc )*6, total 48 stitches then make 1-2 round more 48sc.(if you want the body taller, make more 48sc round) after finish the 48sc round. make (3sc, dec, 3sc) *6， total 42 stitches. then followe the pattern of R8 So the same with the head: from Round 20, not make 48sc, but make (7sc, inc)*6 instead, total 54 stiches, and then make 7 rounds of 54sc Next from round 27, make(7sc, dec) *6, then the same as the initinal pattern from R25. ) Note: If you want to make it bigger, just make one more round with inc. By making the body, each round is made of 6 sets. If we make (xx, inc , xx)*6 in the next round ,we can get 6 more stitches in the next round, that's how we make the body bigger, yes ,just by making increase. So the same, if you want to make it smaller, just make(xx, dec, xx)*6.

Yes，You can make it with one strand of yarn, I recommend 5-ply cotton yarn and 3.0mm or 3.5 mm hook.

The type of yarn I use is made of 60% cotton yarn and 40% acrilic yarn. Which makes a good feeling when croche.
