I think people are overreacting. From a lore perspective, it makes more sense for the imperium to have non gender segregated military regiments. Its literally a civilization beset on all sides by enemies, and in that scenario, you don't have the luxury discriminate 50% of your recruitment pool because of their gender, especially if we're talking about Blanks like the SoS, because Blanks are supposed to born 1 out of every 1 billion. Speaking of which, if they're able to keep up with the Custodes, doesn't that mean they're at least strong enough to be selected as Custodes themselves, considering they're non-augmented humans keeping up with perfectly genetically augmented super-humans? It really just seems silly to me.

I think of it more as a Bottle Green than a Forest Green.

Yep retconning women into custodies is a no go. You could have a move to try to shoe horn them in but if they cannot keep up. If they are not strong they will be culled.
