I had an 04 heritage(03 style), and an 08, both 4.2L 5spds. The 04 never saw lower than 0F and didn't whine like that, but the 08 would do it below +15F. Bought the 04 in 2006 with 22k miles and bought the 08 brand new in late 2008 when the 09s were out. But I wanted a 5spd and the 09s were all auto. The 04 was a regular cab longbed with 5spd, 2wd, and 3.08 axle with a k&n intake. The 08 was a regular cab shortbed with 5spd, 2wd, 3.55LS axle, plus the 04's k&n intake and an 87 octane custom tune from vmp tuning. Miss the 08 quite a bit but not so much with the 04. The 08 was actually quite a bit quicker than the 04 even before the tune.

You had one job... When I was in driving school, instructor told me to stop before try hook and go out, check if height is good to not hit front of trailer. Use airbags to get lower if need and regulate landing gear. Now I'm sure, that fifth wheel wouldn't hit front of trailer. Then carefully back under trailer and leave some space. Next is turn off engine and lights. Time to connect electric wires and air. That's why some space left is really good. Soft connections done, then turn on engine and lights, elevate tractor on airbags till fifth wheel will be pushing up trailers floor. Time to check if if fifth wheel is on good way to hook kingpin. If yes, just back. After hooking, try move little bit forward. If kingpin is locked proper, brakes of trailer would hold you. Now fully connected, check all trailer lights, release it's brakes, you are good to go.

It is so easy to measure trailer 5th wheel deck height before coupling to avoid this .
@laughsinmisogyny8827
@laughsinmisogyny8827 Жыл бұрын
It happens, easy fix. Just teeter the 5th wheel and place something under it to keep it propped up, then drive from under it and then crank the landing gear down. Good thing he didn't crash the sleeper.

There must have been a lot of value in making sure the driver got that experience. Between getting it on video and all the observers showing up, I have to wonder if this took place in a school setting to teach students how to think and act when things go awry. Better it happens in a school setting than in the real world. Hope everyone learned quickly that it's better to get out and look than endure an accident inquisition.

Everyone coming over after the fact reminds me of an Amos and Andy episode trying to get their Plymouth out of a very tight parking spot, one spotting, one driving. After about three times of spotter being a little slow on the "woah", driver asks if he can get the "woah" just a little bit ahead of the impact.

I hate going under the Kingpin!!! Dropped a Trailer once in South Bend Indiana, landed on my rear tires, lucky I had air operated tag axel!!!
@jerrykinnin7941

Airbag dumps are for after you drop the trailer. Trailer should just clear the tops of the tires. When backing under the trailer to hookup. As the trailer crosses the rearmost axle. Raise the airbags. Now i did hook to one one time that the kingpin plate collapsed. The boss finally retired that trailer.

Rookie mistake. I did the same thing once. Back till your drivers are just under the trailer. Get out and check alignment and trailer height. Raise landing gear to lower trailer if needed. This is completely avoidable. Don't skip steps.

I don’t even see the fucking king pin!!!!!! The king pin alone entering the jaws of the fifth wheel should not allow the driver to back that much of the tractor under the trailer.......having held a Class A CDL nearly twenty years that should have been the drivers “red flag” that something def wasn’t right......had he “gotten out and looked” he would’ve seen that
