Good job with a stick welder. I used a whole pack of electrodes for my trike. How did your rim brakes on the front wheels perform? On the rear wheel they are pretty much useless. Did you find a material other than shade cloth for the seat?

Good health to you. I'm sorry I didn't see your trike building video earlier. Everything is quite simple. What is more impressive is how you adjusted the armotizer. I also want to make myself a trike. I found the materials. I have a pair of wheels. I drew the drawing. Somewhere to find money for an electric motor wheel and buy it. And then finally go find a job and not be unemployed. There is a war in our country. Russia attacked Ukraine. They won't take me to war. Not so much health. The defense of the Donetsk airport in 2014-15 goes sideways. I live in a village. And there is no work in the village anymore. It is almost 70 km to the nearest job. Thank you for your video. It helped a lot. Please excuse my English.

Thanks for the information if your using mapp gas you need the extra big tip , i use mapp gas and a oxy bottle to get extra heat as it a LOT cheaper than renting the Acetylene and Oxy gas bottles here in Australia.
@MultiTman1000 Жыл бұрын
In the US we call that tubing EMT and it comes in 1/2" like you are using, and 3/4" which is a lot tougher to bend. Anyway I found out that the cross tubes need to be 3/4" if you want something that will hold up over time and not bend in the middle. Unfortunately, I could not get my 3/4" EMT bends to come out right- even filling the tube with sand and capping off the ends did not guarantee a smooth bend without kinking. I did not try using heat as I only have Mapp gas or propane anyway. Nevertheless I will keep trying because that Barrington seat design is the best thing since sliced bread- especially for a recumbent trike. P.S. there are free plans from Recycled Recumbents to build this Barrington seat and even printable templates you can download and tape together to create a full size plan.

the main parts of the frame are box steel and the steering tubes are the tubes that the front bike forks go into and the forks top tube is then welded to a flat piece of plate steel that the front wheels bolt to. I hope that helps. Later this year when I retire I hope to make a two wheel cargo bike if your interested . Any questions just drop me a email at [email protected]

I like this build and am wondering if this can be made as a hybrid ( gas/electric ) pedal assist trike and add a small pull behind trailor for going to the store also what size are the wheels and can 4 inch wide fat tires be used for this? I am a little large about 260 in weight ( pounds ) I really like the way it is made. What do you think of the idea?

What kiind of tubing is this? In the US we have cheap? but easily available electric conduit tubing that is 1/2" diameter. That looks like what you are using, but electrical conduit is galvenized, which must be removed when a good welding joint is needed. I really admire your effort and am glad you put up this video! If I do this, I'm thinking of using 3/4" inch tubing for the extra stiffness. Do you think that would be better?

Hey Mr Niall, Nice work & inspirational. I'm about to get started on cutting up n making both (wife & myself 1). As Mark Alden mention his tip & another FYI: if you'd wire brush- cleaning or grinding the area that Ur trying to tac weld, it helps w/starting Ur arc. Just a helpful tip (I'm no pro welder by any means) clean area makes for easier n cleaner welds. Enjoyed it 👍n Thx from DavnTenn

Good evening, I'm from Brazil. I don't understand English, and I really liked your bike... I wanted to understand how the axle that holds the front wheels was made, I would like details, do you have a video talking about it??? The axle would have to be in well reinforced steel??? Thanks and congrats on the bike.
@MyJessmatt2 жыл бұрын
Hi Fabio the axles that came with wheels was a heavy duty axles that is standard with racing/compation BMX bikes if are have a walmart type of bmx wheels they may not be strong enough. Try wheel chair wheels instead they are stronger. good luck In the near future I am looking at building other style's of bikes ,cargo style when i have time , we moving from one house to another and need to reno the other house to sell then i might have time to start on a cargo bike.

@@MyJessmatt Thanks for replying.... I really thought it would be unanswered.... I will try wheelchair wheels and look for a sturdy axle, I will make one exactly like yours, I really liked the model. @MyJessmatt3 жыл бұрын
Hi it was 32 x 32 mm and i thick it was 1.6mm thick , this was to make it as light as possible and easy to weld . My welding has improved since changing brands and size of the rods from 2.4mm to 1.6mm rods means less blow out of the welds

A trike for under $200, nice. 👍 as for modifications, I would have angled the boom up for the pedals and not added the heavy metal rack piece. Raising the boom for the pedals makes for more efficient pedaling. And a set of bolt on aluminum bike racks would be more than sufficient for anything you’re going to carry on them, and be much lighter. The only criticism I have is you welding over the paint. I see you’ve been welding for years, self taught, my grandfather taught me how to weld, he was an owner operator of a welding shop. Built horse trailers and did repair work mostly, but he was big on starting with a clean, rust free surface. Clean off the paint before you weld, you’ll have a much better looking and stronger weld when you’re finished. But over all, nicely done. Kind of makes me want to build my own. 👍

I’m looking for a 3 wheel lay back trike. I had a 3 wheel Recumbent bike by Rebike 30 years ago. It was a seven speeds. My son got stopped by the police for going over 35 mph. I might add he was a big guy and was pretty strong for a 16 year old. My 3 wheel had 1 wheel in the front with 2 in the back. This is what I’m looking for and my dream is to electrify it.

The orignal axles where what i used , those wheels came from a racing BMX so it had 15mm not 10 mm axles, the 15mm are far stronger than normal ones.
