I recently watched the opera retelling if this story and not only did it work much better as a comedy but it kinda better answered this question. Cindy stays because her only family died and she just had a kind humble heart. Willing to suffer their abuse and even forgive them out of her kindness and eventually change their hearts. Also they replace the shoes with bracelets telling the disguised Prince if he wished to find her, look for the girl with the matching bracelet and if he still loved her for who she was, they could wed. A fascinating retelling.

The doctor in Where No Man Has Gone Before is Dr. Mark Piper, played by Paul Fix, who was most famous for playing the sheriff in The Rifleman. That was Dr. Piper's only appearance in Star Trek. It occurred because the episode was a pilot, and DeForest Kelley, who played Dr. Leonard McCoy, had not yet been cast at the time of the second pilot. It confuses a lot of people because first season episodes were aired in a totally different order from the production order.

Trigger warnings at the start of the show, how did I get so old? Kirk and relationships: Hedonism also comes into play as well. Kirk and Riker 🫛 🫛 in the pod. Should have seen the mud dragging coming. They could NOT tell her. Enough damage was already being done. Allowing an old dude's book to cloud up a simple plot point. .....and now it is all about... Stayed too long, seems I'm always disappointed when I stay too long. I come from the first generation that has virtually no shot at ever being able to retire or own anything. So what? Does it depress me? Grew up in the mid 70s, a societal hell scape compared to today. Just keep trying to make it better, be kind, worry and anxiety are energy wasters. Live, Love, ....be Kind.

I was immediately concerned when all the Spock moments in the SNW trailer involved him kissing women. Even if you don't think Spock is gay (though i personally think he is), he is never shown to enjoy kissing or enjoying being touched much at all. It just doesn't make sense to suddenly have him be a physically affectionate person.

I really appreciate how innocent their love is. I’ve seen so much graphic nudity and violence on popular tv in the past twenty years that I’m sick of it. My personal head canon is they might enjoy hugging or taking a nap together eventually, but they don’t want to smash really. That being said, if the characters felt sexual desire, it would certainly be for each other, and no one else.

it's so funny how anti-spirk WIlliam Shatner is because HE made those acting choices. HE looked at Spock like he was a nice warm slice of apple pie after a cold day in the snow. HE was the one who did all that unnecessary touching. I've also heard him GUSH about Khan's BOOBS with my own ears, so. The call might be coming from inside the house. As a person who is not attracted to men, I there is an extremely low chance I MIGHT make a passing comment on a guy's boobs if they're very impressive, but I wouldn't go on and on about it for FIVE WHOLE MINUTES. I am legitimately not exaggerating.

This reminds me of the episode that I hallucinated when I was in the hospital detoxing from Fentanyl. It was called "Young Master Kirk He-cums (I don't know why my hallucination felt the need to distinguish between the two types of cumming) in his Starship and Creates a New Species". It's about Kirk on the Saucer section leaving our Solar System for the first time and encountering the drive section, which the saucer fucks, and they join to form the Enterprise as we know it. He then goes to some Greek God planet and finds a statue of a Vulcan, which leads him to find a Vulcan. He takes her onto his ship amd fucks her, then (I swear this is true) sprays his cum all over the Greek God planet, which mixes with something there and forms a new race. In my hallucination trek, this is the WHOLE MISSION OF STARFLEET!!

I understand where you’re coming from, but it’s not like that was their kneejerk response. Blowing up the amoeba was their last resort. It had already killed 400 people (that they knew of) and was in the process of killing them. It wasn’t an intelligent life form, it was a very large germ. Do you try to reason with bacteria when you’re sick? No, you take medicine and kill the disease.

Not only is this episode just a slightly altered version of The Doomsday Machine, there's also a slightly altered version of this episode in The Animated Series, called One Of Our Planets Is Missing. Which I don't think it's necessarily weird or bad that basic premises are reused over time, but it's funny it happened so noticeably often over such few episodes. Then again, "big space thing threatens whole solar systems, how can we stop it" is such a simple and good premise, I absolutely understand why it keeps returning.

The same thing happens with Sherlock Holmes stories. “Person is offered a fake job by a criminal who needs a cover story while they commit a crime” is a premise that’s reused by Arthur Conan Doyle several times.

I enjoyed your review. As a pilot, this was my favorite episode growing up. Since the original pilot didnt cut it, Gene and his cast thought it was all over. Its not well known but Lucille Ball had a lot to do with that second pilot. She was very impressed with the idea of a woman as second in Command, (Majel Barrett) even though the stiff executive suits dismissed her because she was Roddenberrys girlfriend at the time. Thank you Lucille Ball for your using your influence and helping Gene Roddenberry by allowing for a second pilot. A television first at the time. Thank you again for your review. I will check out your other reviews of all time.Favorite show growing up
