Love my 2025. Bought it as a parts locomotive. Little cleaning and she has been running ever since. Shes a puller for sure. Ive put 20+ 1950s 60s and 70s era scratch built o scale cars behind her. Pulls all of them with no issue.

Great review. Not as far fetched as some might think. In the 80s Santa fe experimented with a all glass hopper. Yeah it was an epic fail. 1 car broke during loading . 2 broke while in route. I get they were trying something new that would save a ton of cash. Just some old railroad history for you.

Your tender is the streamlined tender not a slope back, those were the smaller ones used for switchers and lower end 2-4-2 locos.

@6:00 - The Blue Streak Freight was my first train set. I kept mine in great shape until it was stolen 2 years ago. I know for a fact that you have the wrong flat car. The Flat Car with this set was Union Pacific UP 9020. It has blue print on a yellow frame, and like the other rolling stock, 1 dummy coupler and one working knuckle coupler. It also came with 18 black stakes and 1 easily removable brake wheel. I don't know if the canister colors are different with each set, but mine came with 2 orange canisters for the (post-merger) Burlington gondola, and 2 reddish-orange canisters for the blue Republic Steel gondola. The tender and caboose were the only cars in the set with metal wheels.

Most of that old shrink wrap I've come across as pretty brittle for its age. that one seemed pretty tough like someone re shrunk it. could explain the missing pieces.

You can add a #600-8040-125 undercut wheel with a #600-0242-206 rubber traction tire and put that on your engines motor and it will pull really great.I think if you try that you will like it!!!

Very well done! You put it all together very nicely. Good slower speed on your engines too. You get to see everything much clearer that way. Nice intermission with the hopper wreck being rerailed too. Very clever. Tom

Very nice! I run post-war and MPC-era trains and these are quite good. I don't have a Trainmaster, but I have the 6250 and the 221, along with the 2025. the earlier version of the 2035, W/O MagneTraction and the 2055 Hudson. I also have a number of 2026 Prairies. I have the F's in Santa Fe, NYC and Southern. It is cool to see all of those locomotives and trains running An excellent video, as always.

Thank you for sharing I think your Lionel is a colorful and interesting set. I also like that your set has a good assortment of freight cars. I have the same locomotive from Lionel that was special ordered by TCA is the 1976 Bicentennial train set, came with 3 illuminated passenger cars all in beautiful red white and blue. Only issue I have is the lights are not working on locomotive and needs serviced.

I was 7 years old when this set started showing up at Sears, J.C. Penny, and Toys R Us in 1972. I did not find it appealing even back then. Too small. No offense. The following X-mas my Parents gave me a Lionel 027 Locomotive set from the early 60's. Today I recollected More plus a bunch of 1960's Marx Trains which I like the most.😊

The Lionel Kickapoo was a very nice little train set. Had one of these, which was still sealed NIB in the early 1990s when I was a young teen. Seriously under-rated set, like much of the MPC era starter sets and entry level sets. Glad to see you're focusing on the MPC era starter sets, which I'll always have a soft spot for. IMHO a LOT of the Lionel snobs out there fail to remember what made Big-L great: Kids & families. This set was well designed for younger kids. And it was also designed to compete head to head with the MARX train sets which were still in production at the time this Kickapoo set was made. 4-wheel cars go very well with the locomotive and oddly enough, both the docksider steamer and the Bobber-caboose were later re-used in a number of other sets such as the Smokey Mountain Line, Midland Freight and LTI's Railblazer and Badlands starter sets. I should know LOL because I also had the Railblazer set as a kid and the Midland Freight today :-) Thanks much for another cool MPC era video and great review! My summary is this was a great set for young kids (look at the box cover art, Lionel was aiming for the Preschool age kids) at a price point that most families could afford in the early 1970s. The couplers might be fixed but they would work fine with other Lionel rolling stock (unlike the dreaded Scout couplers of before) Because the locomotive has the universal "Pullmor" motor it has decent pulling power. FUN FACT: The rolling stock comes in various colors. It is FUN to collect them all!

Nice! That is a cool, little train. With the plastic wheels, you don't have to worry about derailing and causing a short. You can just pull it around until it gets to you and then re-rail it. A good review and excellent video, as always.

A very good review. I don't run the new stuff, so much of the catalog doesn't interest me, as far a buying anything new, but the technology is just great. Some of the locomotives are pretty cool and not priced out of the range of most operators. The big, scale passenger cars are another thing, altogether. The prices are just over-the-top. You're better off looking on the used market or even another manufacturer. An excellent video, as always.

Marx was always a lower coast version, Lionel did cheapen there F 3 in 1955 by eliminating grab irons and steps on the trucks screens on top and porthole windows by filling them in, In 1955 the Santa- fe only had 1 motor #2243 latter it had 2 motors #2383
