Polatec alpha is great for people and units that can afford it, I have an older Columbia ghost mountain jacket and I wear it alot. The neagtive: Cats will pull the fabric. My jacket gets a lighter visit every few months to burn off the pulled threads. Other than the loose knitting, it works.

Hugely informative. Have you a wind shell test? Have you heard of the British brand Montane? Have excellent apparel and have just launched a nano wind jacket that’s arguably one of the lightest in the world at around 55g. Keep up the good work!

What happened to the Salomon s/lab speed 2, greatest trainer ever made INHO, such a shame it seem they've discontinued.

It's been 3 years since your review. Would you mind briefly describing how did the shoes hold up? How much did you get out of them? What was the main point of failure? Thanks

THANK YOU! We need more of the this! Vibram should be shut down with its inferior products (but superstar technology that it reserves only for those partaking in certain hobbies while everyone else can get f***ed from inferior Vibram products.. The “MegaGrip” is a brain-washing lie (for those who have been blessed to experience STEALTH rubber… R.I.P. 5.10 C4s :( As one article I read puts it: ‘Vibram MegaGrip, think halfway to sticky rubber’ And I find this to be very accurate. Based on a different article, I had high hopes for Inov-8’s Graphene so your review saved me a lot of headache. FriXion White (never hiked in it but based on articles focused on the topic of grip) seems comparable to Vibram’s MegaGrip… … but slight correction: the FriXion Black is the best gripping of the FriXion blends… but to my knowledge not used in approach / hiking / trail shoes; only reserved for climbing shoes… Re: durability: this is an absolute ***BS ‘argument’ for companies to not provide better gripping shoes… my ones, my onlys (5.10 C4’s) last just as long as the Vibram ‘MegaGrip’ based shoes… they get retired after 700-900 miles from loss of cushion, NOT worn out outsoles. ***In other words, YES, at some level, durability DOES come in to play, but NOTHING in the approach shoe realm even comes close to the STEALTH that was in the C4’s which = WORLDS MORE STICKY AND LAST JUST AS LONG (if not longer) than currently available options.

Thanks for your thoughts. I'm going to do an 800 mile hike next month that will be 75 percent pavement 25 percent steep trails. Could you recommend a shoe for this scenario? I have the Altra lp7 and they seem OK but I always like to have other options to try. Any response would be appreciated.

I love this, you will last forever I think or less for a long time. Unfortunately, I don’t get a Run a Trail dispatch as I would like him love it triple is more flexible than a lot of my barefoot shoes of the only thing with the tongue I wish it was a little bit longer I think or longer when I am doing like the lace lockers, a little wider shoe of it, it’s a little short so I’m out for a little longer but I heard the new version came out. They read it the whole time so that’s really hard though people but oh matter fact, I just bought another pair cause I was able to find them for brand new for $35 and $37. Good video.

Always appreciate the care you take with everything you do. The comparisons of other models and terrain specific talk is great. As a longtime fan of the brand, and having just got my hands on a NOS pair of these, I appreciate the familiar locked down midfoot combined with a little more room for splay and swelling in the toebox. Took a few miles to soften up underfoot but after that it's the tactile and responsive ride I've come to expect from the variety of models I've liked from them in the past, now all discontinued, with the added benefit of a bit more room up front without having to got to a big clog like the Lone Peak(now relegated to trail maintenance).

The tread on the ultraventure 3 is not deep enough, it's good as comfortable off road shoe for easy terrain, the mtn-racer 3 has a lot more grip but lets the foot move a little on steep decents, the Ultraventure pro is the same shoe but slightly narrower and better on steep technical trails. I have all 3 and the difficulty and steepness of the route decides which shoe I use. If I had to choose one for everything it would be the pro. Shame about the color... hopefully they fix that in the next version!!

I think you did a great job in breaking down details of each jacket and I appreciate that effort but I have to say based on your own words - how do you rank the NorthFace FLight Future Light over the Salomon Bonatti Pro ? You mentioned how you noticed the difference between 10K jackets and the 20 K waterproof and breathability on the Salomon Bonatti Pro - you were almost totally dry from rain or perspiration . And you preferred the way the hood sat on the Salomon Pro and liked the more convenient chest pocket on the Bonatti Pro over the NorthFaces kind of annoying rear pocket 'weighing down' the rear of jacket .. And yet The NorthFace gets first place ? By the way why doesn't The North Face have specs on their jacket ? I sometimes have this cynical thought that NorthFace has groupies that pump the product line similar to Apple fans . I'm not saying you are in that crowd but this review seems odd to me .

I have always wondered that on a zero drop shoe, especially in Altras, is that the heel wears out first and compresses earlier and therefore seems to put the shoe at a negative heel drop, and makes it feel unnatural? Wondering what anyone thinks about this idea?

Great interview with John, so many stories I have heard from him. I'm his brother in law and have followed him thru it all. From his first run with works boots on. I have only gone to one of his 24 hour runs in Cleveland Ohio. It was great to watch him and his friends running. Like John said have fun and be nice to everyone, he would bring different gifts to other runners before the race. Thanks Ian...

I was wearing / testing one that Dan had created custom for himself. He does have limited at once sizes available now on his site but it's still largely custom to order.

I'm fairly similar size to Dan who makes them so I was using pieces he'd made for himself. They've grown a bit and have some at once availability in traditional sizing, but until recently it's been all custom made to your specific measurements.

Would this shoe be useful for riding a Mountain Bike?
@TrailsCollective2 жыл бұрын
Dunno if good in that regard. Maybe in that they're thin and would slide pretty easily into a basket (so long as not deep enough to catch the lateral BOA ratchet), keep debris out, and be easily tightened on the fly. But, there's not much stack height and no rigidity so you'd have very little leverage as you'd often have with cycling specific shoes.

Rhoda is amazing. Eric is ok. David scares me.
@TrailsCollective2 жыл бұрын
But then sweet Dave smiles and all is better. I think there's a greater fear factor with Kosek at this point with a beard multiple times more impressive than that of Ted Kacynski. Fully agree regarding Rhoda.
