5:10, Wait, hold on why was a p42 on the Northeast Corridor in 1999? No Amtrak diesels are allowed to go on the line since it’s for electric locomotives only. Diesels start out of Washington Union Station to pull trains for the remainder of the trip to Virginia and Florida.

I keep forgetting just how horribly negleted Perryville was at the time. I wasn't alive back then but that station looked to be falling apart. I'm glad it got restored and I wish the same treatment would go to other marc stations like Point of Rocks.

Those PATCO Speedline trains are still in service today and they’re 55 years old. Can’t believe PATCO decided to overhaul 40+ year old railcars, that’s extreme, they should’ve replaced them with new vehicles rather than spending all that money to overhaul them and get another 10 years out of them. It is cheaper to buy a new vehicle than it is to overhaul old.

I guess the previously uploaded version was slightly sped up! I take back my 140mph comment from the other upload. This one looks more like the expected 110-120mph range. Great footage though, and the higher quality scan is great to see!

Heard a lot of good things about these “Erie Limited” excursions from 1996-1998. Really wish my dad took me on these trips back then. Oh, well, such is life, I suppose.

It was rare to ride a passenger train on LV track then because LV was freight only since Feb 1961, CNJ continued passenger trains from NJ to Allentown until 1967, then cut back to NJ and pulled out of PA for freight service in 1972 and the LV took over some of their track. And steam excursions in the Lehigh Valley area, eastern PA, NJ were more frequent in the 60's, 70's and 80's and almost non existent on Conrail in the 1990's and 765 ran two excursions from near Bethlehem to Pittston and return in late Aug 2015 on NS and RBMN, I was on one of them. The 148 is now at US Sugar in Florida and operates excursions there, and 972 went to Strasburg in the 90's from Jim Thorpe and stopped running after 1986. I rode it a couple times in the early 80's and a longer Flaming Foliage excursion to Haucks in fall 1985 with CNJ RS3 # 1554. The diesel was moved to the rear of the train at Hometown and pulled us back by itself and # 972 pulled us by itself across the Hometown Trestle to Haucks then disconnected from the train and ran back by itself.

I grew up in South Jersey so the scenes depicted on this layout are very familiar to me. I used to ride the NJT Atlantic City line train to go to the shore during the summer some years and it was always pleasant and clean. Because I lived in the Camden area I would constantly see Conrail working and I have had a life long love of the road. If I ever build a model railroad it is going to be of Conrail in Philly and South Jersey with the Beesley Point Secondary thru Audubon and maybe even the Bordentown Secondary thru Palmyra and Pennsauken. Thank you for posting this. Even if it doesn't have a ton of views it still brings a smile to our faces.

....the last 15 years has been amazing enough! 8mm home movies were pretty much it from the 1930s to the 1980s - Super 8 from the mid 1960s, then with sound in the 70s. Video tape after that in improving degrees, but, as you say...

I remember my dad took me on an Amtrak Metroliner back in 73 or 74 from Philly to DC. Al I remember was some trains had the Amtrak Phase I scheme, and the others still had the silver with red pinstripe Pennsy colors. I distinctly remember the green-tinted windows.

Everyone has their own opinions, no doubt, but there was alot ( and still is) of hate for the looks of the GE Genesis locomotives. I cannot figure out why? In the original paint scheme like on the Auto Train in this video, how can anyone say those are ugly locomotives? Yup, much different than the F40PH but man I think they were sharp in their original paint as well as the "Heritage" schemes. What cool footage, I love this 1990s era-Amtrak. So much variety, some of it so much different than today yet some of it is still the same! Thank you for posting.
