I’m 50 years old and will be running my first 5k. Not much for most but challenging for me. Date is 11/28. Went on my first practice run today. Ran for 10 minutes and got winded. Wow! Think i can do it?

In those 10 minutes, you already did 1/3 of your 5K. Start slow and keep going. If you have to, there's no shame in walking a little while you catch your breath. Good luck! You'll love your first finisher medal.

I did this in shool and was faster than most other. It was also much more effortless until my teacher said I should run normally. This is now like 20 years ago. That video remembered me 😂

How often would you recommend doing these? I already do some drills twice a week before a session. Could you do before any normal run? Or just on their own? Training for a 400 and 800. I’ve only been doing track stuff for about 8 months. I’m 53 so my technique is not great ha!

Twice a week is good. If you are not great at them a bit more practice would help, so no reason not to do them on other days. Try to ensure good practice - working on improving things you don't do well. Don't just go through the motions and come to bad habits.

Hi, Thank you for your video. I'm wondering if you could provide the reference in the literature that indicates that with sprint training, you can convert type 1 muscle fibres to type 2. I'm aware of the reverse but this is the first time I hear of type 1 going to type 2, and I would like to learn more about it. Thank you in advance.

Do you have a video on your channel for slow/starting runners with this technique? Or does this only apply to faster runners?
@MomentumSports6 ай бұрын
It applies to everyone. Slower runs will just do less knee lift on each step, everything else is the same.
@biedawo7 ай бұрын
how much faster is this than the common standing start where the runner takes a false step back before moving forward?
@MomentumSports7 ай бұрын
It's hard to quantify, but probably about 0.2 to p.3 sec. It is certainly significant.

For the men's 100m hurdles, 8 steps to the first hurdle, is the first step shorter than the next 7? In watching one video it looked like the first two steps were shorter than the next 6. Thanks for any info.
@MomentumSports7 ай бұрын
Yes. In all sprints from blocks the first couple of steps will be shorter and the gradually get longer. This includes hurdles too, whether 7 or 8 steps to hurdle 1

@@MomentumSports Thanks so much, especially for the quick reply! I'm training for a masters track event in June, have only ran a hurdles event once before, a few years ago in Vegas. My only goal was to do all 10 hurdles...while upright! Succeeded. I'm 74, have absolutely no background in the sport, didn't start until a few years ago before the Vegas thing. I watch youtube videos, scratch my head, check out Wiki, scratch my head, and go to the track and decipher all the marks on the track...while scratching my head. Anyway, if you don't mind, would love to ask a few more questions as they pop up, which they surely will. Thanks again!
