Сказка про белого бычка для наивного дурачка . У " Красных голодранцев " ни штанов , ни обуви , ни жратвы а патронов без счёта . А у Белых и валенки , и папахи , и шинели а патронов нет . Это обычная антисоветская заказуха !

Like this movie because it didn't seem to fall into a trap a lot of American movies do, which is to draw things in a very stark contrast, black and white only. One side is bad, evil and degenerate - and completely so, while the other side is good and honorable, with no exception. This is a recurring thing I noticed with American productions. Star Wars type of stories. Gods & Generals appears to have been an attempt at drawing things more realistically and human I find, so it was enjoyable to watch. Too bad they won't be doing a third part. Greetings from Germany, where most Germans were fighting for the North, but some Texan Germans and Prussians had picked up arms for the South too.

Richard Brooke Garnett wasn't wearing a uniform during the assault, he was evidently wearing an old blue overcoat[some irony there!]with no distinctions of his rank other than his sword. This is why his body was never identified and was buried in a mass grave with many of his men. The sword turned up decades later in a collectible shop in Maryland.

There is actual WW1 film of Russian soldiers charging into German machine gun fire. They did not make it. Filmed by the Germans.

This battle looks so similar to napoleon at Waterloo. When the general of Duke of wallenton ordered his men to lie down. Just waited till they were close enough and they Open fired on the old guard

It has been estimated[see "Pickett's Charge", Stewart]that between 400-600 men made it over the stone wall in and around the Angle. Many did not get that far, some quite sensibly took cover along the Emmitsburg road to exchange fire with the defending Union troops. Kemper was wounded farther south of the Angle, Armistead suffered his mortal wound in the Angle, Garnett was killed and his body never identified as he was plainly dressed without any rank distinctions. Decades later, his sword turned up in a Maryland collectibles shop.

I have an appointment with destiny at midnight in some burning village in far off Morocco. I think I quoted that right, even though there's no quotes around it. I read March or Die, a book about the legion. March or die is also a great Motorhead song.

Even if the union middle was the weak link, I truly believe this strategy was Lee's worse of the whole war. No army in the world could have taken that position, Picketts charge proved that

Tetanus must have had a field day in those times. Imagine how many died a slow agonising death. Great cinematography capturing the morass of human waves pushing against each other only to realise that a pike is piercing your stomach. Imagine the realisation that you were about to die. Well scripted. No Lycra cladded superheroes here, just men playing their part in history.

This casting is a little mixed. Martin Sheen, Tom Beringer are miscast as Lee and Longstreet, but Stephen Lang, and Jeff Daniels are almost dead ringers for Pickett and Chamberlain.
