Thank you for posting this. We will be there in early January and can't wait...looks amazing. I already had my doubts about scooter rental on this island and your video helped confim this... We'll try that on Mak & Kood. I heard it can be a challenge on Chang bc of the hills/curves...?
@monkey_in_sneakers5 ай бұрын
Don't worry Kelly, Koh Chang is very relaxed. Also when it comes to road traffic. Nobody is in a hurry and the roads are in good condition. Only in the southern part can you expect tighter bends. As long as you don't drive too fast, it's easy to manage. If you are looking for a trustworthy motorcycle rental company, I can recommend "why not travel". It's cheap and the bikes are as good as new.

Can you imagine in 1860, when Henri Mahout, a Frenchman who had stumbled over to see Angkor complex while looking for plant species that were unknown in France. I had a chance to visit this historical site back in the early 60s with my family as a teenager then. It was so quiet and peaceful with only a few tourists in sight. Unfortunately, most of them died during the genocide not very long ago from 1975 to 1979. Only memory lives on. Enjoy you trip and greetings from Khmer in the US!

I wish it for you! This place is so beautiful. As a small tip: The area is huge and almost impossible to do in one day. The heat and humidity is not to be underestimated. I would advise you to plan at least two days. So choose the best 3 day ticket. It is cheaper than buying two single day tickets. A 2 day ticket is not available. Please do not forget to tell me if you liked it there 😉

Is it weird? If the current Khmer people are indeed descended from “Khom” ancestors in the past. They should have skills in sculpting or sculpting various patterns beautifully or better than in the past. Or there is evidence that it is an art that has been passed down from generation to generation. Cambodians or Khmers should know that tourists want to know the true history of art and culture and was not made or changed or invented to promote tourism or for political interests within or outside the country.

Hello Monkey, tour appreciated and wondering with what you filmed this as it is fairly static and seems to much so to be a camera on helmet. As I intend to live there next year I would have loved to have seen a caption for each district you were currently in but thats just something someone like me who will be property seeking to get a vibe of that district. My mate Dan who is a street musician is there now but with no gigs = no income he was saying he has to live very basic because even saving where he can he is still spending around $650-$700 a Month which includes his rent So to my question what Monthly income should a foreigner from a developed country try to bring to enjoy a comfortable standard of living, not luxurious but just a nice appartment or Villa in a nice neighbourhood within walking distance of center of town. Are you a long stay yourself, how are you enjoying it so far ?. if you find time to reply then thank you, have a great day.

Hello and thank you for your question. In the video you can see the city center. But I will try to show it more concrete next time. First of all, I would like to say that I am not an expat, just a traveler. My subjective assessment is that you can "survive" on 1000USD, "live" on 1500USD and "live well" on anything above that. I feel Cambodia is a country of contrasts. Next to a small tin hut, you see big villas with expensive European cars. So you can rent a room for 150USD and get a meal for 1.50USD. This is possible but if you are used to a certain standard, difficult in the long run. My tip, the further away from the tourist center, the cheaper it will be. Nevertheless, Siem Reap is a beautiful city with friendly people and I wish you a great time there!

Underrated?

That was my subjective impression. I can imagine that it is different in the high season. I was on the island for two weeks and there were never many people on the beach. I wanted to show that Koh Chang is also worthwhile in the low season, especially if you want to experience relaxed days.

Underrated? What do you mean? Actually one of the main tourist / well known islands in Thailand. You have a lot to learn and explore here, and that's a good thing. Now low season, you know - welcome?
@monkey_in_sneakers Жыл бұрын
Yes, you are right. But I was also on the other well-known islands, like Phuket or Koh Samui and there was a lot of tourists in the low season. I was lucky enough to spend two weeks on Koh Chang and on all those days, you had the beaches almost to yourself. Therefore, this should only be a recommendation that this paradise is worth a visit even in the low season. Hope that I can make myself in the main season again a picture of the island :)
@vaska1999 Жыл бұрын
A place can be well known and still underrated. No contradiction involved.
@markolahteenmaki711611 ай бұрын
During the low season, Koh Chang has the most rain in Thailand, maybe that's why tourists don't go to Chang during the low season. Dengue fever also occurs. Personally, I only visited 4 times during the low season. I like it, but when you drive there in the inner part of the island, you see big piles of garbage that have just been left there.

@monkey_in_sneakers Жыл бұрын
@@KimberlyNguyen-yt3hg I rode a rented motorcycle to the beautiful little mountain village of Hmong Doi Pui. This is about 25 kilometers from the city center. I can only recommend this if you are an experienced rider. The road with all its curves is challenging. On the other hand, you can look out for those red buses in town. They are everywhere. You can use them to get to the mountains for a small fee. On this way is also the beautiful Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. It is worth to visit this temple.
