I have attempted to use Linux as my main driver for so many times, and here's my conclusion: If you want a simple system that gives you enough aesthetics as well as functions, LINUX, for that is TRUSH! Love me or hate me, I have spent no less than a hundred hours trying EVERYTHING I could, but their UI has way too many bugs for me to consider it.

I 100% agree with Linus. Debian is a pain in the ass & the Debian community is just as bad as the Arch community. It's quite strange because aside from Debian, the Debian/Ubuntu family is the most user friendly distro family. That's why people who want to try Linux often start with Ubuntu or Mint. I understand why he wouldn't want to use Ubuntu. I don't want to use Ubuntu. It's a company owned distro.

Because of fragmentation. Android is more successful than any desktop Linux has ever been. ChromeOS is also more successful. Both are actually Linux systems, but there is no fragmentation. There's a Windows, a macOS, an iOS, an Android, a ChromeOS, but there are hundreds of different desktop Linux distributions, and that's the problem. Sure, you might say, so are two dozen car manufacturers, each with different models, some of them over 50, so what's the deal? The big deal is that you can drive any of these cars in less than a day because they are not all fundamentally different. But there is almost nothing that Linux desktop distributions can agree on. Name one thing you think they all have in common, and I will show you examples of distributions that do not.
@xcoder1122
@xcoder1122 21 күн бұрын
We don't use Windows either but that's because we all use Macs, not because we use Linux. The reason why Linux will never be successful as a desktop operating system is because there is no such thing a Linux system. There are plenty of Linux based systems, those are systems that combine the Linux kernel with some user space libraries and tools, with varying level of compatibility, that follow different paradigms and are designed in different ways. See, there is only one Windows. There is only one macOS. There even is only one Android. Sure, all of these systems exist in different versions but if you only go for the latest version, there's always just one and it always works the same and is always compatible to itself. But with Linux, you have Ubuntu, Debian, Mint, Fedora, CentOS, openSuSE, Arch, Alpine, RHEL, Slachware, and 200+ others I'm not going to list here and each of those is a system of its own. It may be based upon another one, it may be anywhere from 80 to 99% compatible with another one but there simply is no such thing as Linux system. And all those distributions cannot even agree on a software packet format (rpm, deb, pkg, tar, ...), on a service launcher (init.d, systemd, OpenRC, ...), on a graphical backend (X11, Wayland, ...), on a desktop environment (GNOME, KDE, MATE, XFCE, ...), on a file system (ext4, btrfs, zfs, ...), and so on. It is that fragmentation that is killing Linux. The most successful Linux is in fact Android, that uses nothing but the Linux kernel and everything else is different to all wide spread distributions but it isn't fragmented! As a developer, I can pick a certain version of Windows, macOS (iOS), or Android, develop my app for it and it will run on that version and all later versions still compatible to it and I have a huge market and a huge level of compatibility. I cannot do that with Linux other than Android. It already starts with "How do I make a UI?" Do I use GTK or Qt or Xlib or draw to image buffers with cairo? It creates dependencies to libraries people may not want on their system (I don't want Qt on a GTK based system), it won't look native (GTK apps look ugly on KDE because it is a Qt desktop). And if you thing at least you don't have to worry about X11 or Wayland, well, you have, as even the font rendering won't be the same, as with X11, the Xserver renders the fonts, with Wayland, the UI library (GTK, Qt, ...) has to do it and you don't even know how they are doing it and what library they do. So I cannot even know what my fonts will look like on the final system and yes, there are differences and yes, there are plenty of apps where this does matter and that need to implement their own font rendering for Linux, which is absurd!

I know drivers who can't fix a car and mechanics who suck at driving 😅 Non technical people think that if you know how to install an operating system then you can create a beautiful pdf document or make a photo look professional by editing it or maybe you are fast at typing so you must be good with computers and so you can fix their PC and so on and so forth 😅

Everyone has an innate right to be respected as a child of God. Hence, basic respect does not need to be earned. There are cases, however, when you need to scold someone. But never do it in a way which violates the basic dignity mentioned at the beginning.
