Hey awesome vids I was wondering if you had any vids or info on getting sponsorship or into 433 I got la city certs and stick certs but don't know what to do
@WeldinCowboy20 сағат бұрын
Thank you boss! First off, congratulations on getting your LA city certs! When I got into 433 I already had my LA city stick and wire certs as well but I also had years of experience welding in the shop and in the field. My suggestion would be to go to the union hall and asking them the best route to take. I was a journeyman getting into Local 433 but for getting a sponsor I believe they will give you a list of who to call or they will call for you. It has been a while since I was in Local 433 and I would never go back, but that is based on my personal experience with the union. I would recommend talking to one of the union business managers at the hall and find out as much as possible from them as they would be a good source of information.

Are you installing the lights yourself or having a shop do it? And are you going through a relay or straight to the battery?
@WeldinCowboy6 күн бұрын
I have a place that will be installing them for me. I think they will be putting it straight to the battery but I don’t know anything about that kind of stuff as that is in their realm of expertise. I don’t know too much about vehicle mechanics so I leave that to people who are professionals in that area whereas I mainly stick with welding and fabrication.

Are you going signatory with the union?
@WeldinCowboy10 күн бұрын
That is highly unlikely due to some very bad experiences I have had with the union. There is so much illegal activity with the union being done by the union itself that I want nothing to do with it interacting with my company. If things were different with the union, then things might be different. Who knows, if it is beneficial to me and not the union, then I might consider it. As of right now I am not really looking that direction though. Great question by the way! Thank you so much for commenting!

I would still suggest welding school to anyone interested but the welding and iron working jobs have seriously been hit hard by illegal immigration. Basically everyone in the construction industry has suffered. So learn some specialties and stay away from the garbage.
@WeldinCowboy20 күн бұрын
I do completely agree welding school is the way to go. For sure we have suffered in the construction industry, especially here in Los Angeles, California…. It is sad but unfortunately very true. Specialization is definitely a way to stand out and make more opportunities for oneself. Even with that fact, it is still harder to get the jobs. Thank you so much for commenting!!

Any tips on getting in to the union?
@WeldinCowboy26 күн бұрын
Gain experience, get as many certifications as possible, and do everything possible to outshine the next guy in line. It’s not to sound mean against everyone else, but that is exactly who you are competing against. Have the welding certifications to make you valuable to a union, have the experience so they don’t have to start from square one (which will most likely get you more jobs), and learn everything about anything in the field to make yourself more knowledgeable and an asset to the union and companies in it. If you have more questions, I would be more than happy to answer them to the best of my ability! Thank you for commenting!

We just added welding to our policy as we do general welding and equipment repair, our general liability policy went up substantially, you also know and follow the policy requirements to be covered when welding, prevention is the best medicine, move the work to a safe area if possible, wet area down if helpful , try and control where sparks to with grinder, air arc, cutting torch etc.. cover combustible items with fire blanket that are near work, have piss cans with water in it and extinguishers on service truck tagged with inspection date, if possible try to get the welding done in the early part of the day less chance of fires and your around to do spark watch for a while before to leave for the day. All this add cost and takes time so has to be covered in the rate, fire prevention is so big given all the wild fires it must be taken seriously most customers will understand. I’d even go as far as documenting the prevention measures taken. We work mainly in the forest/logging industry fire prevention is taken quite serious here as we lose huge areas of timber do to fire.
@WeldinCowboyАй бұрын
@@RichardMontpellier I definitely have plans to incorporate multiple forms of fire prevention into the business at each site. I do have a company that will cover me, but the videos are playing catch up so they will be in quicker succession for y’all. At this point in the process, I couldn’t find a single company that would even give me the slightest chance…. Thankfully that has changed. I really appreciate you commenting with the details about how y’all use fire prevention. I will definitely have fire blankets, fire extinguishers, and water but I am not sure what containers I will haul the water around in yet. I think some military surplus water containers could work perfectly. We shall see though. Thank you again so much for your amazing comment, I greatly appreciate it boss!!

It will definitely be good for the lighter projects. It is supposed to hold about 500 lbs total but I don’t think I will be coming close to that limit. I will try to take care of it the best I can, but we shall see how it holds up with use. Any project that would be heavier than the 350 lbs spot weight limit would probably be welded on wherever it is or on the ground. That makes it easy for me that I won’t overload the table, haha! I am looking forward to the projects I will be working on with the new rig as well! I hope you continue to enjoy the welding rig build as well as the videos of it in use out in the field! @WeldinCowboy2 ай бұрын
Great question boss! Yes, your one year experience at a fabrication and welding shop along with your certification in SMAW and FCAW do give you a greater opportunity for being accepted into the union. A disclaimer I believe is worth noting is the fact of the way politics play a role in unions. Some unions have ridiculous standards that are contrary to the logical choice. That is a reason I can see folks telling you no. In the long run, the experience and qualifications are definitely on your side. The more skills and experience you have, the better off you will be and the more you are worth to the union. Keep up the great work and it will all pay off! I hope this was able to help. I know most people use the “I Beam” term but I like to differentiate between beams such as standard, wide flange, high pile, etc. I accidentally put wide flange instead of saying standard in the short😂 I was rushing while commenting to someone about the carpet not being wide flange beams and I accidentally typed wide flange instead of the correct reference of standard beams😂😂 Thank you for commenting!

So what about the amount of people in high seismic areas?
@WeldinCowboy3 ай бұрын
Great question! That is what the next video is about, cyclically loaded structures. Since I am in Los Angeles, I have my D1.8’s alone with my D1.1’s. This allows a welder to weld through the rat hole in seismic areas. In less seismic areas, neither are as sought after as they are in high seismic activity areas. I hope this helps!
