A Scot should not feel sad about his country having people from there like William Wallace, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Sean Connery, Brian Cox or Alan Cumming himself. Or bands and artists like Eurythmics, Steelers Wheel, Simple Minds, Pilot, Calvin Harris, Lewis Capaldi or David Byrne. This is when the word "underrated" can truly be used. You are very special to the world. Only they don't realize it and feel inferior for being ruled by England. Much love from Uruguay. I am an admirer of English-speaking cultures in general.

I fucking love Scotland. Everywhere i went (mainly Edinburgh, the Highlands, St Andrews) I was usually offered a free pint or a line in the bathroom without even asking. They heard my Australian accent and that was it "Oh! So you hate the queen as well??!!" Met some amazing people there. Highly recommend at least a 12 month stay

As someone whose parents come from Scotland and with more than half of oyr extended family spread out around the world, I grew up with a kind of ambivalence towards the place. And the attitude here is a extreme and satirical one but I get it. 'Be proud you're Scottish son but you'd hate living there' is something I heard growing up. That has changed with the rise of Scottish nationalism and the independence movement though. Scots have achieved so much throughout history but a lot of the time they had to first get out of Scotland to do that.
