Yes. Strike anywhere matches were much easier to strike back in the day. So easy in fact, they were considered dangerous and a new type of match, the safety match was invented. This is the match you are most likely familiar with.

If anybody deserved that boost and exposure to a new audience, it is Leo. He showed some good trajectory in the early ‘00s, but then people began to taper off despite his continuing to release exceptional material. Criminally overlooked.

Agreed. I believe there are plenty of covers that reinvent the source material - also think of Joe Cocker's "With A Little Help from my Friends" cover, or Cat Power's cover of "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" by the Rolling Stones. I definitely think that if, as an artist, you're going to cover a song you should make it your own and put your own spin on it, otherwise what's the point? (Hence why I'm not a big fan of the recent cover Weezer did of "Africa" by Toto - it's too similar to the original).

Seabrook recounts an early collaboration between Max Martin and Dr. Luke. They are listening, reportedly, to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ “Maps”-an infectious love song, at least by indie-rock standards. Martin is being driven crazy by the song’s chorus, however, which drops in intensity from the verse. Dr. Luke says, “Why don’t we do that, but put a big chorus on it?” He reworks a guitar riff from the song and creates Kelly Clarkson’s breakout hit, “Since U Been Gone.”

I know this is a really old thread, but this is exactly what brought me here, simply to see if anyone had recognized this coincidental similarity in guitar riffage. I will point out that the two riffs are a bit different from one another after a thorough listen. Love both songs regardless
