Is it necessary to remove the parking brake if running in reverse orientation? Or was that just to fit the older gearbox to the new motor?

Yeah it's still necessary, either to disengage the parking brake or remove it completely if you want to be sure

Make sure you have swapped the two correct wires in the resolver /encoder and that the phases are swapped after the current sensor inside the inverter

I'm afraid not. Using two controllers in the same car is not something we would recommend either

Just out of curiosity, could I use a pre 2018 charger with a 2019 leaf drive motor and battery or would the resolve controller have an issue? I want to do a swap with a gen 2 leaf for the bigger battery however I also want to be able to DC fast charge the conversion car.

No, you can use an older Leaf charger but you won't be able to QC only type 1 charge

Grymt Isak… jag skriver på Svenska :-)… av en slump så hitta jag ditt projekt. Först med en bild… och då var det din Porsche-E 924 och Öresunds bron. Då blev jag nyfiken. Jag har haft en dröm att göra ett liknande projekt på en 944 och nu har jag hittat en annan donator en RX8. Men 2 frågor. Fråga 1 Gör ni konverteringar eller kitt. Fråga 2 hur löste du det med registrering/bilbesiktningen.

Tack så mycket! Vi säljer endast styrenheter, sedan är iden att du själv köper alla Nissan Leaf delarna från en skrot. Registreringen i Sverige görs genom SFRO, om du googlar på dem kan du hitta mer info :)

Pretty sweet deal, 500 EUR for a charger, motor and inverter. Where did you buy it from ? Battery packs are worth more because everyone wants to upgrade their Nissan Leaf. 5400 EUR was best quote I got for for a 40kWh used battery pack at a Norwegian salvage yard. Very interesting conversion, it was a pleasure to watch. Thank you!

I bought the parts from Norwegian junkyards as well the 24kWh pack is a lot cheaper. However it was a while ago, I believe the prices have gone up since then. Thank you!

Awesome work isak. My transmission is also mounted in reverse (Honda crv). How did you determine which of the bus bars to invert? My connection between the inverter and motor look different (different years I suppose). Thanks Tom

Thank you! It doesn't matter which bus bars you invert or which phases you switch. As long as you switch them after the current sensors.

@@isaksoderlund5640 Thanks Isak. It's all together now. I must say, the bus bar trick was a bit scary but it's been working . I'm not getting much torque out of the inverter, however. 110nm is all I'm getting even though the VCU is requesting 100%. Is there anything you can suggest that might be limiting the torque from the inverter?

Does this controller also do some kind of range calculation? Since it reads the battery and I would guess it also knows about the speed?

The BMS calculates the state of charge which the display just shows. The BMS also calculates a range but usually it's less reliable than the SoC.

we are currently trying to convert a 1987 Porsche 924S and the way you mounted the battery in the rear and split the batteries between the rear and the front is EXACTLY what we are looking to do. We are working on making it compatible with other battery packs. However I can't give a timeline on when. Hopefully within 4 months

Yeah! I have been driving for two years with the gearbox running backwards without any problems.

Yes, but each individual inverter is programmed for a specific motor.

Hi Isak, it looks like you removed all of the cells from the Leaf battery pack and stacked them in a new box. How simple was this process? Have you had any issues with battery temperature?

If you do it the right way you don't even need to rewire the BMS wires. Kinda hard to go into more depth in a yt comment. It does get a little warmer than the battery behind the seats, but nothing that's damaging.

Listen Isak I’m so very very pleased that you stepped outside the box of Tesla swap this, Tesla swap that, and gave the masses a more affordable solution y focusing on the Nissan Leaf drivetrain. Having tried other ev builds from aftermarket motors to trying to pair battery packs, I can tell you that I too saw that the Nissan Leaf is the perfect ev donor vehicle for lightweight applications and simplicity. Thank You!!!! Like seriously I’ve been searching the internet for a solution for my desire to use the new generation of Nissan Leafs in a project vehicle.

Tack så mycket! Det är en halva Porsche axlar och en halva Leaf som är ihop svettsade. Det är ett helt Leaf batteri jag har bara delat upp det så att ena halvan är under huven och andra bakom sätena.

Great stuff Isak 🙌 Getting the 110kW was probably the best upgrade I've ever done for my LEAF. Can't wait to get the same done to my project car with the Resolve Controller 😁 (and even got a 160kW inverter sitting on a shelf for next season 😉)

Hello Isak nice work bro I love what you've done here . One question is does this controller also control the bms in terms of what if you wanted to grow you battery pack let's say doubling the KWh of the original pack will you controller handle the error codes that the nissan PWM will definately throw out....so you can have more range or motor power etc. Thanks and keep up the excellent work. Could you not discard (or sell) the original battery modules and wire up any 96s batteries to the same BMS? Would resolve work this out or would it throw errors?

@@benfreeburn7387 Good question! The Resolve controller would still work, the problem is if you could trick the Leaf BMS. The other battery cells would have to have the same voltage range (voltage difference when fully charged and discharged). If so it could work but it's not something we have tested.

It looks like I have to use a leaf battery pack. If so do I have to uses the same year as the motor? Does it come with complete instructions? I am looking to put it in a Pontiac Montana mini van. I also plan on adding batteries for much longer range. Any advice or videos you can give me would be appreciated.

Hi! You can use any batterypack from 2014-2017. Only the motor and inverter has to come from the same car. Yeah you can find instructions on our product page: www.resolve-ev.com/shop/p/resolve-controller You can also watch Daniel Östers youtube video series, he uses a 30kWh pack in his car

Hi Isak, I'm looking at using leaf parts to convert my Triumph Spitfire in the future. Have you done any work running your system with less than all the battery modules? I ask as I will need to run a reduced battery pack due to weight

Hi! I'm afraid not, the BMS doesn't work properly if there are cells missing. And it would be quite complicated to trick the BMS into thinking that it's not missing some cells. However we have plans to make the Resolve controller work with custom BMSs so that you can use any type and amount of cells.

@@isaksoderlund5640 can the nissan BMS controller work with upgraded/smaller cells w/higher energy density to bring the weight down? I understand leaf gen1 to gen2 battery swaps are popular without much trouble so wonder if you can do gen1 capacity w/gen2 type cells (or other OEMS) for example.

Thanks! Yeah they are welded one part Nissan one part Porsche 924. It’s a pretty solid weld. The swedish regulatory agencies certified it which I is a pretty good approval. But if you want safety a Polestar is probably safer :)

@@isaksoderlund5640 Well, I use custom made half shafts like the drive shaft shop is making, those welded parts were my early age solution, then I moved on to better quality, strength and overall safety, because it is a number 1 priority in the drivetrain.
