This album (Who Else) was a wake-up call to the decades of mastery I’d missed. I’d listened to his Yardbirds stuff, but was learning Page, Clapton, Hendrix, etc.. After a buddy showed me this I went out and got Truth, BeckOLa, and Blow By Blow. I’ve got most of them now, and I can play the notes, but there’s something special about the way Jeff played that I’ll be chasing for the rest of my life.

What masterful control over his instrument and what a beautiful sound. Steve Vai, who also constantly seeks new tones from his instrument, sounds rough like a wild boar in comparison.

If anyone is interested I recently transcribed/tabbed out Tal's bass solo note-for-note by slowing it down to 50% speed and replaying each lick dozens (if not hundreds) of times. You can find it (for free) by going to the Ultimate Guitar Tabs site and searching for "Cause Weve Ended As Lovers Live Bass by Jeff Beck" I have tried posting direct links to the tab before in KZbin comments but I think they've been marked as spam and blocked. But just searching for the tab on the UG site using that description should work.

I always slated this guy , could never understand him and the hype he had as a guitar player . For some reason , once he died I suddenly changed . quite uncanny, but I came to recognise things in my playing that reminded me of him . I questioned in my own mind as a critrique of my own playing that maybe I was wrong , maybe i missed something about this great man . Now , I watch this and realise how I was wrong and ignorant . This guy transcends the rigeour of a schooled musician . He plays so free , melodically , texturally and deep down in there is a kind , sensitive and elegant spirit that goes further than his performances . He tries to play so honestly and when he gets it right .... He does get it right :) I salute you jeff beck and rest in peace

I made the mistake of listening to this today, a day after his passing, and I cried like a baby. There will never be another Jeff Beck, and I am grateful to have known the beauty of the man and his music. I have never been so impacted by the loss of an "entertainer", so to speak, but he was an absolute giant, and he will be missed tremendously by millions who adored him and will treasure his legacy. RIP, my brother. I hope to one day share a pint and thank you in person for all that you have meant to me. Devastated.

Oh man, me too.....beautifully said. I've played guitar for over fifty years and Jeff was my hero, always will be. The day after we all heard I was driving along listening to Planet Rock and Wyatt gave a heartfelt tribute and played Hammerhead....that was it, I had to pull over because I couldn't drive for all the tears. I was like that for days.....thank goodness all my friends and colleagues understood. The thing I loved the most about Jeff was that everything he did was high risk, especially live, and there was no hiding place...it could go either way. Seeing him live was like seeing a boxer enter the ring, a fearless spirit who never stopped pushing the boundaries of his own creativity. He did so much for others too, rarely spoken of, and he was such a great champion for women in music as well. He was one of one and we'll never see his like again, but we are so blessed to have his amazing body of work to enjoy forever. For anyone that hasn't heard it, listen to 'The Final Peace' on 'There And Back' then ponder that he did it in ONE TAKE......it chokes me up every single time, so full of emotion and beauty, the technique totally serving the music as only he could do. If I see you at the bar one day TheBlueskyson, the next round is on me......👍
