Still a newbie so I am only using dmc and Aida so I do convert to those when possible.

Lots of great finishes! If I have called for fabric I use it, but mostly I sub. I generally stick with called for DMC, but if floss is a brand I don't have I sub. Also go a shade or two either way if called for doesn't show up.

Always fun to “visit” with you two. Happy Birthday!🎉🥳 I usually use the called for floss but rarely the fabric as I’m an Aida stitcher as well as an impatient starter when I feel like a new start so I grab from stash. The trunk show sounds fabulous; I’m on the hunt for some of that parchment and the white one now on Etsy. 🧵🪡 Happy stitching

Happy belated birthday Jennifer! I’m new to your floss tube but not new to your storefront Persnickety Stitcher! I’ve been there many times!! I’m also new to the retreat scene so I’m going to sign up to be on your waitlist for both of your retreats in 2025! I also subscribe to Helen D.’s floss tube and really love her channel! You are both a joy to watch.

Enjoy watching your video! I use called for colors probably 80% of the time, depends on the pattern and thread colors called for.

I'm stitching full coverage at the moment, so called for floss. On other projects, I tend to use called for floss, but change out the fabrics.

I rarely use what the designers call for. I just feel like I have so much stash that it's silly to keep buying supplies. Better to use up what I have. I pay attention to their color choices and then I go to my stash and look for something similar. Sometimes I don't like their choices and I'll pick my own.

Floss often use called for unless I am using a modern design with overdyed for gifts that will be washed, so I sub in DMC. Fabric almost never used called for because I hate neutrals, especially brown, beige, off-white. I love intense color. Sub more intense for pastels.

Enjoyed spending time with you and great finishes! My favorite part of FT is seeing FFOs and you two never disappoint! I too am a multi crafter and sewing and quilting and wool applique are favorites, in addition to xstitch! I stitch on 14 ct Aida, often hand dyed but recently LOVE Cosmo 14ct Aida which is never a called for fabric and I never use called for, just whatever inspires me and is handy! Usually in the "spirit" of the designer but it is rare that either the fabric or floss is called for!

I enjoy your videos so much! As for called fors, I generally stay in the general color scheme of the called for but I do swap fabric quite often (gotta use the stash!) and if I’m only missing 1 color of fancy floss, I’ll swap for another. I have a full set of DMC, so that is never a problem…I’d like a full set of everything else but my wanter works overtime and my sewing room isn’t that big! 😂 Diana

Happy Five Ohhhhh Jennifer! 🤣 Another great video by Two Tall Stitchers! I usually stick to the floss colors in the pattern. For fabric, I use what I have or try to find what the model was stitched on. I'm not very creative in that area! But I can copy and do what is suggested like nobody's business! Happy stitching! PS Loved all the great stitching you showed this week.

Oh those fabrics! I am happy to continue to mention you…getting back into quilting so both areas are fantastic for me. Oh my…I switch up fabrics, making the count smaller, and almost always change the colours…the only thing I don’t change colours on is the full coverage piece. Happy birthday Jennifer. 🦉🧵🪡🎂

I don't usually use the called for fabric. I don't enjoy stitching on linen and most of the charts I buy seem to call for linen. I prefer Lugana and occationally stitch on Aida. Projects that are almost full coverage are generally the ones I stitch on Aida. I have never done a full coverage chart but if I ever do one it will be done on Aida. I love the look of Lugana and prefer using 2 strands of floss. Currently I am stitching the Vintage Cats in Teresa Kogut's Hello Halloween book. I am stitching them on 18 count Kiwi Aida. I finished the Halloween Sampler, on the books cover, last year. I stitched it on 18 count Caramel Macchiato Aida.

Loved the update. I only use called for fabric if I happen to have on hand and most of the time I do not. 90% of the time I use DMC called for if provided if not I covert. Today I worked on Flea Market Flowers, I love the pattern but have struggled with the chart. I also put a little time in my Lizzie Kate series, hope to finish up because 2 more series to stitch (keep that SAL open 😁). For me something has changed on KZbin even though I have the notifications on I no longer get notified when a new video has been posted. Happy September.

Thanks for the video. I always use the called for floss and fabric if available. The only thing I might change is the red in the flag if it's not a true red. I figure the photo on the chart is what caused me to choose the chart, so I want it to look like that.

Happy Birthday Jennifer. I love all the variety of Stitchy things you both show. I would love to stitch the Christmas ornaments you made. When I start a project I always see what I have with both fabric and floss that would work first then compare to what is called for. If it is a Satsuma Street or Autumn lane I usually use called for because their colors are awesome.

Another great flosstube! Happy Birthday, Jennifer! I switch out my fabric more than I do my floss. I will use a fabric similar in color to what the called for is. I have been watching you both ever since you started your flosstube and always look forward to seeing your latest flosstube!

Happy Birthday wishes Jennifer! 💐🎂🎁🎉🎈You both outdid yourselves on your WIPS and finishes, just AMAZING!🏅🏅Gold medals for you both. I mostly use called for floss but when I go rogue, I sometimes recolor the whole chart. I'm not a stickler for using called for fabric. I find photographs to not be very accurate on the patterns so there's that. If I have it, I would probably use it but wouldn't hesitate to use something else in my stash or take my chances ordering something else if need be. Thank you both for a really nice video! ❤

Happy Birthday, Jennifer!! I celebrated a birthday this week also. I love hearing the stats on your polls. I’m usually a follower of the designer’s called for colors and fabrics. I do occasionally substitute colors to brighten up a design or to match my home decor.

I hardly ever use called for fabric (I can only think of one time). The floss depends on the chart - if I’ve spent money on a new chart I generally use called for (or at least a close substitute that I have on hand). If it’s a magazine chart or an old chart (as in 1980’s/90’s) I usually use “unmarked” mystery floss! I need to work in my sulky and silks in my stash, but don’t usually think about it.

Happy birthday, Jennifer 🎉 I often use the called for threads, but am getting better at remembering to use some of my silks and Sulky also. The fabric, though, is never the called for, since I can't get hold on them here in Denmark 😂 That is why I began dyeing my fabric in the first place, because handdyed fabric is close to non-existing here... I've never seen evenweave in a Danish shop. Kr Esther P.S. Glad to see the snowman arrived in good condition 😊

If I get a kit I use what is given. If it’s just a pattern, I often change fabric. I always convert from DMC to overdyed cottons or silks. I have often changed NPIs to overdyed silks. I’m pretty much a prim stitcher and prefer a toned down color palate, and I love the movement a variegated thread gives.

Thank you for the Atomic Ranch show and tell. I may have jumped on my phone and ordered some! 😂 They are my favorite dyer. I'm an in hand stitcher and their fabrics have more body than most hand dyes. I seldom used the called for fabric in a project. There is no LNS in our state so stitching from stash is my usual. I stitch a lot on blue because I think most threads show up on it pretty well. As for floss, it's hit or miss. If I have it I'll use it but I can usually find a close enough substitute if I need to. Sometimes I'll run to Hobby Lobby just for floss. Happy birthday, Jen!

Happy birthday! When I picked cross stitch back up, I discovered the patterns suggested all these wonderful dyed fabrics. I couldn’t find them easily, so I started changing fabrics to what I had in stash or could find. I joined a fabric of the month, so I have quite a bit of fabric to choose from. I like to used suggested floss because I like the way the designer puts the colors together. However I’m not opposed to subbing to DMC or another brand if I have something close.
