I’m a sucker for a nice recurve. Aesthetically, weight distribution, and better at cutting through material, which is a knive’s job.

You can also take a pencil file to sharpen the teeth on the side of the shovel to make the shovel "bite " more on the wood

With the fire cord rub the back of your knife on it. It will fluff the fibers. Another tinder is lint you can get from scraping your knife on your clothing.

Also consider using powdered milk and powdered butter to get more protein and fats. And there's always beans with them I used a little mini canned chickens and or dried jerky and so on. You can add things like dried sausage or jerky's two meals and they will rehydrate as you cook them we keep for longer to

This is what I used to do for backpacking camping everything I was very poor for a long time so my emergency food prepper really simple things that would keep for a very long time. I found a vacuum sealer at a thrift store so use the desitin packs from beef jerky and stuff and seal food I wanted to keep you longer it worked extremely well a lot of the food you wouldn't think would last up to a couple of years after doing that NOT TUNA or meat I only did it with dried goods.

Two other tips: 1. Don't saw anything you can break. 2. Don't saw anything with a wire saw that you can saw with your Swiss Army Knife or Multi-tool. Save the wire saw for the bigger tasks none of the other tools will handle. EDC a SAK or multi-tool, you are more likely to have it on you than any survival kit. The old military ones can cut a nail, so keep that in mind if you have one and need to cut through a wire fence. I just bought 2 and a total of 8 replacement blades for them from the original company that made them for USAF survival kits.

I have built several of these and I have a couple of tips I can share with you… First, instead of painting it what I do that adds another useful tool to the kit is a wrap the entire length of the pipe in camouflage duct tape. Two or three layers of overlapping tape. For a pipe the size of what you have, that’s probably half a roll of duct tape… That’s a valuable resource that’s not taking up any real space and it’s also accomplishing the goal that you wanted of making it less visible. Secondly, I take all of the items I’m going to keep in the tube and put them into a heavy duty plastic bag that I seal with my food saver and then slide down in the tube… this is my first step of preventing any corrosion or issues with degradation of my items, and it also gives me a nice bag that I will be able to use one time into the tube later. Third, as a belt and suspenders measure I drill A hole into the flat of the screw off cap so that it doesn’t block the wrench, and then I install a Schrader valve like you would have on a air conditioner. This allows me to use my vacuum pump that I have to pull a vacuum on the tube to evacuate any moisture or air that could corrode items that I put in there, then I recharge the tube with dry nitrogen up to about 10 psi. I happen to have access to nitrogen, but you could easily as well use argon or CO2 if you had access to those gases because you had a welder or something like that. None of those would cause anything to rust but they will prevent the intrusion of moisture because they will keep the tube under a positive pressure. I make sure and Cap the valve off with a proper cap and I have never had one leak.

I own two of these m-tech 20-35 s .. I picked them up for about $14 each at the pilot truck stop.. fantastic super strong full Tang knife..thick 440 steel .. which I prefer over the Chinese MOV steel.. the sheath leaves a little to be desired but considering the price it's okay... I can put one of these in my get home bag.. my survival kits.. in my vehicle.. and if somehow one gets lost or stolen I'm not going to cry like the loss of a expensive knife... Using this as a survival knife I would not worry about babying it either..MTECH has a winner here.. I also like that this knife is not too big.. bladewise and should be legal pretty much everywhere to possess

Put thread sealant *inside* the fitting. The excess will be forced inside along the treads. If you put it on the cap, the excess will tend to be pushed *off* the cap on the outside.

Not complaining on the man made stuff because I know they work and they are really good product. I just rather not waist my time and money on them. Pretty much nearly all of those fire starters and tenders can easily be made yourself in bulk for a fraction of the price. You can even go full big bulk if you spend the amount of money you spent on those handfuls of fire starters you got from online. Yeah I may not get 100% dead on the exact way they make it because they say "our secret formula blah blah blah" but I can make a pretty damn close replica of pretty much all of those starters. I can even make live fire too. See all those things are just get rich quick items that was being made for years by real camping and bushcrafters. They try to sell to the average Joe Schmo that don't know any better and that goes camping less than once ever couple 2-3 years.

If one wishes they can strip ALL the unnecessary cards from a standard wallet (food savers, Rx club, insurance, business) & gig out the space w/ everything featured except the ointment & bank line. Using 2” paper tape it’s easy to make a folded over sachet that contains: 4 fish hooks, 2 swivels, 2 needles, 1 paperclip, 2 safety pins, 1 shirt button. I also keep 30’ of 22 gauge stainless wire in my wallet (rolled in a tight 3” diameter loop so it’s not too thick) Lastly the Victorinox tool card supplies the rest: compass, tweezers, light, pen, toothpick, scissors & tiny blade. The tiny Altoids tins are okay to, as the gentleman says, to “supplement” one’s EDC but I’m hesitant to even call them “survival kit”. They cover 4 or 5 of the 10C’s. BUT whether a well stocked wallet or Altoids tin having an index of McGyver tools is smart. It changes the way you view the world. Big thanks to this brother for taking time to teach👍🏼

So when you find yourself in a situation where you need to throw a knife; to save your life, you must run to the perfect distance before throwing. Wouldn't it be easier to just keep running at that point?

My favorite non lethal EDC combo is a tactical high lumen flashlight in my left hand for blinding and keeping distance and if the attacker charges into the light right hand tac pen use as well. Great combo because they cant see whats coming from behind the high lumen light which makes using the tac pen significantly more effective.
