Do the two blocks on the boom make for better control of the boom? Or not really?

Great footage! Looks like the foot-straps were mounted a little high, making it harder to hike out confidently.

I know the wide angle lens exaggerates angles, but were you worried about your mast snapping?
@ginnywaite12252 жыл бұрын
Yeah it looks like it’s going to snap but it didn’t 🫣I’ve seen another mast snapped in similar weather condition but it’s easily fixed.
@charleswaters4552 жыл бұрын
@@ginnywaite1225 How is it easily fixed while at sea? Or are you saying it's easily fixed when you get back to port and have access to your tools?

Well done keeping it all together! Looked like that halyard was slipping and causing a lot of trouble?
@MikStorer2 жыл бұрын
Exactly. I tighten it up when the wind drops. At that time my crew would not have been able to keep the boat stable with that wind and waves. She has been practicing and I think she would be good to steer while I sorted out the halyard now..

What is used for the mast? incredible!

Good show of sailing skills keeping the boat from going over in such strong gusty conditions!!! Bravo. This odd boat looks like a blast!!👍🏻😀

I can never think in Beaufort ... but that is about right .... Near the top end of F5 during the busy bit. But plenty of F1 F2 as well. It was my final reminder to go LEFT when the wind is light on that lake. The fresh wind always comes in from the left! :) But was a really cool sail.

what a hoot- made me subscribe, I hope you post more OZ racer videos.

This is the bigger version. The Oz Goose. 12ft and much much faster than the 8ft Oz Racer and sails well with three adults aboard. The OzRacer at 8ft is much easier to store for some people.

Holy crap that looks fun! I don't know how much these things weigh (I imagine they're pretty light, even with crew and gear) or how much sail area you have, but I don't know how you weren't terrified of snapping that mast. I kind of want to build one of these now... if she can take that kind of treatment she'd stand up to anything I'd throw at her.

Hi There, where is this sailing? Also, how come you don't have a kicker/a vang, would really help to control the boat through gusts like these!
@MikStorer3 жыл бұрын
This is Taal Lake - you sometimes see it on the news as it has a live Volcano in the middle. In the Philippines. In this video I am using a new halyard and it is slipping down ... so I've lost all tension. have a close look at the rig too. It isn't bermudan ... it is a balance lug which has some vanging effect from the downhaul If the halyard wasn't slipping we would have had much less trouble :) But cool sailing anyhow.

Great job - both the sailing and the camera work. That took me back to my days before I became a multihull sailor and I built my first cat. I remember the adrenaline rush. Thats almost enough for me to get the plans and build a Oz Goose. Loved it. Thanks for inviting us to join you.

It was crazy. Wind changed direction completely. The sail was coming down and I couldn't see when the rain came. Might not seem like much in the video, but we couldn't see the other boats for a while. Towards the end I was asking Ginny which way to go ... because I couldn't see at all!

What fun! Love racing in those conditions. Plus the bonus of a crew who starts playing music halfway through.
