I wanted to pick a budget usb microphone to record vocals , what are your recommendations? Additionally , what do you think of the senheiser profile?

I have reviewed a few USB mics, but I don't consider myself an expert on them. One mic that really stood out for me was the sE Electronics Neom. It is about $180 USD though...not really 'budget'. But a well-built, nice-sounding mic. I have not tried the Profile, sorry.

Surprisingly not that much info on this. So thanks for the info. Is it similar to the heritage i73 line? Just adding iconic pre amps to the interface. And unless you’re in love with the Harrison sound or the neve color with i73 would you say to stick with a traditional interface with a more neutral preamp?

Thanks for your comment. The reason to buy this is the unique EQ sound, and maybe if you prefer a transformer-based input on your preamp. Otherwise, there are cheaper interfaces if you want a quality-but-neutral sound.

I thought that fake sounded really clear? . sometimes it also happens that tube amplifiers sound warm, I built a Tube modulator for an AM transmitter myself and when I tested it I also found that the sound sounded warm? I wish they could sync somehow. I got two, set them to HSI fast at the exact same time, and they fall out of sync pretty quickly. Not a huge deal but it would be cool.

Does anyone know if I need a receiver when I am recording in internal memory? Both of the mics seem to have memory themselves so I am assuming not but have not tested it out.

I'm pretty sure you can record with the transmitter, even when the receiver isn't turned on. I'm currently trying to find my CM28s...not sure where I put them! Otherwise I would verify that myself.

Hey good news! I found my CM28s and I was able to test them. You can record to the Tx without having the Rx powered on. Worked great.

Your comment stung pretty hard, but it's because it's true. One of the reasons I've posted a few "KZbin growth" videos lately is because I've been exploring what's holding my channel back. I think I should be doing better than I am, and I'm trying figure out why. There's a saying that authors "write the book they need to read". That's kind of what I'm doing with these videos...they're advice to myself as well as viewers.

I'm seriously tempted to buy it mainly because it would fit in a backpack, and that would be so handy sometimes. The feature set is pretty comprehensive, too. Delay on outputs, automix, DCAs and Mute Groups with the latest update. All the connectivity options are a nice touch. The only thing that bothers me is the FX selection: from what I understand there are no compressors, no EQs, no de-essers that you can use as inserts? That would be a real shame. I can think of no technical reason not to include them. A&H has always been weird about FX, see the SQ series where if you want any -super basic- effect beyond revs, delays and a couple modulators you have to buy them separately, which is kinda lame for 4k+ consoles.

I must video a panel of six people. Can I buy additional transmitters and will the receiver capture them all in mono?

That won’t work. You can’t add any additional transmitters. There are a couple of systems out there that have four transmitters, but that doesn’t really help you. You’d have to maybe run several separate receivers into a mixer to make it work.

Thanks for the straight forward comparison. I was actually hoping to reduce the noise of my Mini 2 so I didn't scare wildlife so much but after watching your comparison, I would only buy these to get the brighter colours. I feel they are great quality, just lacking in the 'stealth' delivery. Nice work. I wonder if the props for the larger drones actually meet the claimed figures? Minis are very tiny blades but some of the larger DJJIs might actually benefit from them.

Hi Matthew. I've just bought the CM28 after your review. Really pleased. One issue I've noticed - when plugged into a computer via USB - I can't record in stereo. It seems to record in MS (mid-side). I've found a few people talking about this on the internet - but no solution. I can't find any specific drivers on the NEEWER site. Have you come across this?

That would be very strange if a wireless mic intentionally did mid-side recording! I primarily tested them with a single transmitter. I'm a little embarrassed to say that...I can't find my CM28s! My favorite wireless set so far, and I seem to have lost them. At least temporarily. I will test this out when I find them again.

Hi Matthew. Thanks for response - I hope you find them! The receiver has 3 settings, mono, stereo and MS (mid-side) - but via usb into my DAW, stereo behaves as mid side. With audio cable it’s fine!

Hey good news! I found my CM28s. So I just tested them and hooked the receiver up to my computer. Ms is NOT "mid-side". It's just as I thought, mono-plus-safety channel. I think the user guide says "mid-side" for some reason, but that's likely a translation error. I was able to record both mics separately to L and R in stereo mode. In Ms mode, both mics got summed to L at normal level, and to the R channel at a reduced level. No weird classical-music stereo configurations going on there. :)

Also, plosives can damage the capsule in condenser mics over time and lead to degredation. Another reason to "always use a pop filter with with condensers"

Yes. The sound is slightly better and it can record internally. However, if you need really small transmitters, the Lark is a great way to go.

As for my situation, the noise comes from my system fan. Will buying a laptop cooling pad work for me? Something like buying an external cooling fan and attach it to the laptop. Hi! I'm not sure a laptop cooling pad is going to help. Yes, it will keep the fan from running quite so often or as loud, but probably can't turn the fan off. So there will still be times when it's running. Unless the cooling pad is somehow dampening the sound as well. The best solution is to a) get your mic as far away as the fan as possilble, and b) get your mouth as close as possible (without overloading it). I don't know what your particular use-case is, but that's generally a good solution for most background-noise issues.

Always love seeing new videos from you sir! Your production keeps getting better and better! Fun to see you comparing these two, they both seem like solid choices! An interesting thing about the 4100 and 4400, even though they have that similar "boxy" body to the AKG C414, it still uses a center-terminated "K87 style" capsule (as opposed the "CK12 Style" edge-terminated capsule you'd normally find in a C414)! Thanks for your kind words! As for the K87 style capsule, I mentioned that to sE. I got the sense that they weren't really trying to duplicate the sound of the C414 (which in my mind is a good thing). Are the outputs stereo for headphones? or is there a way to link the outputs to have them run as 4 stereo monitor outputs?

The built-in headphone jack is stereo, but you're talking about the monitor outputs. They are six mono outputs that can be grouped as up to three stereo outputs. You group them as pairs, so you could have one stereo and four mono for example.

Not sure what you mean by card. The sound quality is very transparent unless you have the EQ engaged, and then it has a distinct character that you won't find elsewhere.

Though I'm unsure how to keep the momentum of these views/subscribers for future videos, cuz I posted another video afterwards that I also put a lot of work into and it didn't get the same level of traction as the big one. It did better than my videos normally would, but not as good as I'd think given the circumstance

@@unknownperson7708 I'm actually doing some research right now on small vs big channels and the volatility of their view counts per video. Larger channel have much smoother deviation between views on videos, which is probably because they have a large subscriber base who watch everything they put out. Smaller channels don't have that, so a few 'hit' videos account for most of the views. There's more to it though and I might do a video on this in the future.
