For people who don't have an extra carpet piece.. Lift up a vent on the floor and cut a strip off if you have any slack.

Some of the glue squirted out because you put too much pressure with the carpet roller.

All these repair videos and they all demonstrate newer carpet's or fluffy carpets so of course the fibers will match but this technique will not work on older carpets or carpets that are not as fluffy

just a quick note, it is a good idea to check the pile direction of each piece (original + donor piece) and mark with a pencil on the backing. This is crucial with tufted carpet that is shorter than the one shown in the video. Also, its crucial because the original piece will probably have matting or crumpling associated with it as it is likely to be a few years old.

You win best all round! This is not just for rentals- i repaired an empty chunk the size of a plate that our dog made. i went to a closet and cut a diagonal triangle from the least noticeable corner and took it to the great room. I put on a good program and relaxed as I trimmed the piece to fit the hole. I used hot hot glue liberally and stuck the new plug into place. Over the years I looked many times and could not find the repair. It lasted just as long as the rest of the carpet! Only time our sweet dog ever chewed up anything. I look back on it as a fond memory lol. When you have children , pets ,, friends who smoke, expect it to happen and remember what is really important- I also figured out that if the hot glue ever lets go, your house is prolly on fire lol.

Why not cut the donor piece at the corner so you already have two sides cut, then you only need to make two cuts instead of 4?

I just put a bit of superglue on the spot and stick it back down and no probs so far. I didn't do it perfect like you but it seems to be alright. I have vacuumed over it , had the carpets cleaned etc The reason I say this is better to fix it even if it isn't like you are doing than leave it.

Again no mention of the importance of pile direction, no paper under the seems, bid of glue I believe should be below the main carpet and parallel to it where edges of the coming patch will be. Also where do you put your nails when carpet is on a concrete slab? finally the last part has the worker's hand in front of the work being done! I don't know about your tool, but I'm sure your next video will be very good.

How big of area did you damage? If it is a bigger area, you could use this same technique or seam in a new piece !! Go to a carpet store and see if you can get some seam strips, fill the spot after you cut the old piece out with the same size of carpet, You can heat the seam strips up with a Iron & maybe rent a carpet layers iron to melt the seam strips, for a better idea look up " fixing a big hole in carpet " or seaming a carpet" !! Good luck !! DEv

Very nice video and very informative. I have a long pull that I need to repair. Do you have another video explaining how to repair that? There is another video here on KZbin and he says to cut the pull and glue the tuffs back together. Would you recommend that method? I would really appreciate your advise. Thank you,

This is great when the carpet is somewhat new. Once the carpet is older, it may be more matted and faded than the patch you're installing, making the patch very visible. There is also no mention in the video on how to avoid cutting the padding underneath or how it feels when you walk on the glued in patch. I have made patches like this before (no fancy tools needed), and it's a good trick to know, but keep in mind that this is an advertisement video which leaves out some of the pitfalls.
