My 1570 edge pro II is dead and I’m torn between either buying an entire new edge trem or.. for the same price I’ve seen a cheap old 470 guitar, Korean. Tbh I don’t really know much about the differences with the trems on these guitars. What do you think? Repair the 1570 or buy the cheapo Korean 470?
@MADMALKOСағат бұрын
oh id replace the trem on the japanese guitar..theres quite a jump in quality between korean and japanese.i was playing a jet guitar yesterday that has a wilkinson floyd that seems pretty good, not sure how much they cost but im pretty sure it doesnt NEED to be an edge, others will fit....

@@MADMALKO thanks. Ive had the 1570 since 2004, it’s absolutely destroyed. I think everything on it needs replacing 😂 Any advice on the pickups? I was a publican for 17 years and got in many acts, and the best advice I can offer is to play to for your audience, not for yourself. If the crowd is over 60, they aren’t going to applaud your best ever System of a Down effort. Also, if you are using in-house sound equipment, ask if you can come by to try it out before the gig so that there’s no nasty surprises. Lastly, play with confidence…….. get a bit of patter going, and crowds will usually ignore bum notes if you are putting a bit of passion into your playing; if they are already unimpressed, it’s harder to come back from errors.

And I remember their 'Artist Series' from the early 80's, including an Angus Young SG, a Blackmore Strat (with scalloped fretboard!) and a Clapton Explorer with the horn cut off 😅 And Jen's art is fabulous indeed! 🤩👍

@@MADMALKO - I just had a look around the Internet to refresh my memory around said 'artist series', as it's now 40 years ago that I'd read the Blackmore Strat's review 😅 It looks like the latter had belonged to the 'The Revival' series, just like my friend's P-bass (It says 'The Revival' in the decals), and the other models I mentioned, including also a b/w Michael Schenker Flying-V, were made under both the Fernandes and Burny names 🙂

@@MADMALKO - Cool that you were successful with haggling the price down! 😉👍 The neck being that slim around the higher frets reminds me of the '79 Ibanez MC900 bass I'd once owned. Which was great also otherwise but unfortunately also very heavy 😅 34" scale, though. I sold it during financially challenging times a few years ago, after having owned it for a decade 😏 And my friend's Fernandes 'The Revival' P-bass had once been his brother's daughter's, who'd left it behind when moving from NZ to Australia, and as his brother owned 'too many' basses already, he gave the Fernandes to _him_ , and for free, too! 😄 I think it even has period-correct tuners that turn the opposite way! 😀

There's another version with a more banana-shaped headstock, but I think those are earlier versions than this one. There was a sort of fad for making skinnier versions of different basses. Sometime in the early 90s I think. There was these, Charvels, and some of the Korean-built Westones were a similar concept but they were just pointier and not so 'minimal'.
@MADMALKO5 күн бұрын
think every company had a bass that looks like this in 87, this ones quite early to the scene being from 86, i notice the emg type pickup covers hadnt quite taken over by then.superstrats were popular so lets try and make a superpbass! i think the japanese liked the 32" scale for the domestic market as theyre generally dont have as big hands as westerners
@functio15 күн бұрын
@@MADMALKO I think the smaller basses are generally one of those things that's trying to get people to play bass, whatever their size, across the world. Started with those godawful violin things that McCartney used to play and various other short-scale basses. Then you had medium scale, then you had... various mutations XD The skinny pointy guitars were just popular in Japan because there was a lot of bands in the country at the time that were sort of rock, sort of metal, sort of glam, sort of punk. All sorts of weird and wonderful guitars/basses evolved from that and just didn't get exported much. This was still going on in the 90s - I have a 1996 Burny/Fernandes EB-95X that originally just made for one bass player in the Japanese band 'X Japan' and then it was made for general release. It's quite mad, even tho' it has a sort of Rickenbacker neck on a BC Rich Mockingbird pickup/electrics setup... but it's all on steroids (switch it to active mode and it turns into its own distortion/fuzzbox). Generally I think Japan has a lot less conservative market than the US and they don't really care what Fender do as they can do better anyway ;)

What pots do you like in a super-strat with one humbucker and two single-coils 500k or 250k? (You probably said in guitar wiring 101 - I forget).
@MADMALKO6 күн бұрын
i think 500k , my current thoughts are the 250s kill the treble, its easier to tame extra treble with a tone knob than it is to try and brighten a muddy sound.i keep meaning to mess about with resistors, a push pull pot could coil split a bucker and at the same time run the 500k pot in paralell with a 500k resistor - that should make the pot a 250...in theory..i think. was a bad thing having 250s in this bass - the 500s were much much better- so much more punch so its 500s in a p bass fo me!
@ScottfromBaltimore6 күн бұрын
@@MADMALKO thanks! I wonder how a resistor in parallel with a pot might affect its taper. I tried a few with inconclusive results. But if my math is right, it's R1 x R2 / (R1 + R2), which would make it 250 at one end and 167 mid way?
