I want this for display, and I want to get power to the head motor separately so head will move with usb, so you know how can do that?

tnx for your useful video. I have a question regarding batteries: in your video (as well as in other videos) we can see that original battery is 702035, and you replaced them with 702030. is there any specific reason for that, or I can buy replacement in original size (702035)?

Did anyone think of a way to secure them back together in an accessible way yet? So we don’t have to break it every year?

I poked a utility knife into the seam every quarter inch or less, making sure I got down into the groove a bit. Then took a hammer to the seam every inch or so and it popped off. Now I don't have any missing plastic from the saw an I still have the inside ledge of plastic for perfect fit. ( The knife part was to prevent the plastic from veering off the seam.)

Did you have to glue it or does it snap back together?
@cpt.walker6273Ай бұрын
@@kylek328 Glue. I used super glue in spots.I used tight rubber bands to hold it in place. I ran it into some things and it seems to be holding up so far.

I have a bb-8 that was packed away for a few years. Not holding a charge (1-2 min run time). Assume the battery is toast. Found your video to see if its worth trying to repair Thanks!

Hello there, I recently replaced the batteries on my Sphero BB-9E using this tutorial. However, (im still using the original droids by sphero app) the app says that the battery is critically low and not charging. Also when I tested the battery’s with a multimeter, one battery read-out was perfectly matching the video. But I could not get a perfect read-out with the other battery. Please help me with this.
@RodsMenagerie2 ай бұрын
@@concrete_n_bourbon sounds like either a bad battery or the soldering didn't quite take. I would try redoing the solder first and do another battery test before reassembly

Where did you buy the batteries? I purchased some but they look way too big… i haven’t opened the BB8 but they are rather big

Thanks for sharing this! It's a shame that Sphero isn't supporting these robots. They also could have made it much easier to access the battery. It's not like they had any shortage of lines and whatnot on the bots, to where they could have hid hinged battery compartments. Do you know how the replacement batteries compare to the original ones. If they are smaller I would assume they are smaller mAh, and maybe don't last as long before requiring a recharge. I barely used my R2, and still the battery went dead after about a year. I suppose keeping it plugged into my USB input, along with the unit not having any overcharge protection may have caused this.
@RodsMenagerie4 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, I destroyed my original battery before I filmed it but my notes say it was also a 3.7V 1400 mAh and the original was made by a company called Ascent. I would assume as well that the new may not last as long but I actually rarely drive him around. I like to keep him in human interactive mode on a shelf near me so that he speaks up at random times. You are right, they could have very easily made a flap for the battery but electronics repairability in general has been going downhill for years. Really a shame.

When the time comes for me to replace the battery in my BB eight it’ll be used as a display model too much time and effort to change the battery for me.

Thanks for the video Rod. Great detail, very informative. I have ordered the battery and will hopefully have my old R2D2 back to life in the next few days.

I hope it worked out for you! These were such a great product and for the cost I would have expected an easier option to replace batteries and better support in general. 😐

Hello i have 2 of these and there Taking a Long Time to Charge up they will Need Batteries Replaced, Why didnt they make the 2 Halves of the Shell Screw on one side would of been much easier to take apart and change the Batteries No No they Want you to Dispose of it when its Useless, Bad Thinking i Think by Them Cheers Jos
@RodsMenagerie4 ай бұрын
Agreed, all they would have had to do is make this internals slightly smaller in diameter or the external shell slightly larger. That would allow for an internal sphere and an external which creates a gap between for screws to hold the halves together.

Thanks for watching! I wish they had made the BB8 as easily repairable as the R2 line. Plus, they could have kept the app active while they are still in business. Thanks for the suggestion about repair on commission but I will have to think about it.
