It's coming up to our 25th wedding anniversary shortly I was considering something to celebrate, I then received the email from Macallan offering the option to purchase a bottle pre-ballot. As it's our anniversary and I have the Johnnie Walker Blue Label 200th anniversary bottling I just hit the button. Although NAS, I also think it 'should' be a unique bottling and once the FOMO has passed it may well drop below RRP but as it's another for the next generation, it has to be worth a punt... in the meantime it will look amazing with a great story behind it.

Apparently the glass is made in Mexico and is a special kind of glass. the boxes are coming from some designer in China. I stay beside mcallan (edrington) in Glasgow and friends that work in the place are telling me they can’t get a bottle. I was one of the lucky ones to be offered it. So it will go with my collection for my kids

Following your plan, I buy for my daughter. When the hype on this passes I will add to her collection. She has a 7 year 18 year old Macallan sherry vertical, the first 2 Illuminiary from Dalmore, watching for an entry point for the Ardbeg y2k, she has a spot in The Cabrach Collective. You're right , nobody is going to drink it. So it really won't become rare. I am not buying it. There is too much hype. I buy the 12, 18 , 25 year old Cherry oak Macallan yearly . I'll stick to that game plan. I can't do the 30 year old . lol. It's a little out of my price range. I was really close to buying this bottle but at the end of the day I am not one to chase things. I like a steady investment strategy .

What is the next big brand and the undervalued whiskies? I have seen your other 23 and 24 investment buys and agree on some of the other brands. I do like the Mac brand but, the appreciation now is like blue chip stock. Slow and steady but nothing over inflation unless it's a rare gem. No one drinks the brand anymore. The true value renegades I do feel are out there but what are the brands Mark. People still drink Springbank and Ardbeg etc. What would Percy buy. 🐕‍🦺 Keep up the great content.

It seems like only the 1st bottling of a series re sells well on the secondary.

Those who buy whisky for collecting rather than sharing, are not worth the dram anyway.

Macallan caused this problem. They used to produce a lovely 10 year old. Suddenly a cock up occurred and Macallan Gold surfaced. Not the same thing and apparently it was a mistake made by the market planners. Standards have dropped

Too many limited editions that are worth the money.

£10 / unit for bottling ? I did it for under £2 / unit with the bottle being etched on one side only ( front obviously ) with my own design which was highly praised by 2 different high profile distillery managers on Islay. It's not that difficult if you apply yourself. Cask strength, sherried casks, ncf and nc. Unique to me . 3 casks - all between 54 - 57 %. For drinking and sharing. Total average unit cost £56.

Hey Mark, as you're super well versed in Scotch history, do you know anything about Turnbull? Last year I found "the smallest bottle of whisky in the world" in Amsterdam, it was somewhere about .7 to 1 cL of Turnbull in a mini bottle, with the regular Turnbull label. IS there a possibility it's a ~70 year old bottle rebottled into miniatures or am I lied to by the store? It tasted like a poor cork was on there and all alcohol had evaporated, so that's not an indication either. Thanks in advance!

If you have low production and high demand then this naturally pushes prices up. So the only way to combat this is to ramp up production and still focus on quality. You can devalue a brand by making it too available. Remember levis jeans were sold in Azda once. Then levi made the smart move to stop azda sales in order to protect the brand. If springbank bank sold the 30 year old bottles for £3000 then you naturally kill the whisky market as the collectors keep the market growing.
