Good episode! I have lately been finding myself going back through my photo catalog looking for photos that would render better in black and white than color. It has been a fun journey. I've been finding a lot of photos that are meh in color but really pop in B&W! Oh, and thanks for mentioning my favorite quote. Good quote at the end there as well!

Thank you Bob. As you know I am a big fan of Black & White photography. It is amazing how often going to B&W can improve a photo. I good habit is before you leave on a photoshop to set in your mind that you are going to shoot to B&W and you will start to see what works while shooting and take it to the next stage... although, I find your B&Ws to be great already. Thanks for telling me your favorite quote, it worked really well.

@@WeTalkArt Ya, next time I shoot, I need to think in black and white. There's only been the rare occasion where, when I was making a photo, I thought, "This will look good in B&W." I mostly don't see it until I get home. I've been going through some of my canyon country photos recently and the contrast of bright sun and deep shadows with the various shades of mineral streaks on canyon walls look really nice in B&W. Been posting them on Mastodon.

It is interesting, sometimes the most colorful subjects render out to black and white very well. It maybe because it is so rarely done. Not on Mastodon yet, but I am sure you will get me there.

My name is Ron Caddell I just posted a comment I forgot to mention SUDERS ART STORE. Haha this was the art store.

I’m 85 years old as a young boy at the age 12 years old I had a desire to become an artist. I lived in Cincinnati . Many times almost every week sometimes a couple days a week I would visit the art store. There were two elderly gentleman there at the store, they got so used to me coming they would never try to ask me to leave. I assume they were the owners and I would covet all the supplies that I saw, WOW. So I achieved my gold I’m a Watercolor artist, wonderful memories I will never forget Ron Caddell is my name. Thank you for your site on KZbin.

Hi Ron, Thank you for sharing your story. We could tell that store most have a lot of great history. I think it is wonderful that you are now a watercolorist. Mark

What an awesome company and foundation! They appear to be a socially / environmentally responsible organization. Love that old barn and how they left a lot of the original wood exposed. If I were painter, I'd be a loyal Golden customer!
@WeTalkArtАй бұрын
They really are an impressive company. I have told people that when you compare them with many of the other artist paints, they are a paint company, not a big art supply company. They make paint. It was very reassuring to meet these people and realize they exceeded my expectations. p.s. you would probably be a great painter Bob!

Good luck on your challenge. The act of drawing will have you improving regardless of posting. But you may find that you will hit a few out of the park and want to post, that might start something new.

Great advice. This isn't a competition. It's skill building fun. I do small basic 15 minute ink sketches (with humor when possible). If I want something more detailed, I'll do it after day 31. I just like to play with the prompts & just my pens ... & have a bit of fun.
@WeTalkArt3 ай бұрын
That is great. I struggle with adding to much detail, or keeping my idea simple. I am traveling and as a result already behind. But I am trying to catchup, simple would help. Mark

Great inspiring, helpful vid! I started Inktober 2023 in my Strathmore toned tan sketchbook sectioned out, but did the first 5 prompts, then stopped as I was also doing InktoberTangles2023… yep bad idea doing two challenges together while working full time, and part time… phew. I did complete my #InktoberTangles2023 nonetheless. It it fun and will try this again for 2024! Good luck and have fun everyone! 🎉💜🙏🏾🥰😉

Hi Mark. I try to take 30 - 45 minutes every day to sketch in my sketchbook, most of the time that doesn't work out and I end up doodling on post it notes through out the day. I work best in the short burst.

Nice, canyon country! Great observations! I've been going to canyon country for decades. It's a very challenging place to do photography. There's so much going on it's hard to arrange so many elements in the frame such that it makes sense.

I will add to that the shapes and forms are so alien it is hard to use conventional composition with them. Still fun to try. Thanks Bob

Thanks, Mark for this great video. There is something special about creating that makes one feel good, in my case making cards. I am usually in my stamping space in the evenings, creating or mass-producing cards for gifts, organizing, or learning new techniques through KZbin. It's something I look forward to and think about throughout the day, deciding on what project to work on. I also meet once a month with some friends to stamp all day, exchange ideas, and borrow each other's tools. But I often consume (watch movies and shows on my computer) while creating. Does that defeat the point of your video? Anyhow, thanks again for this video.

LOVE THIS! I like to carve out time for creative play each week - and use consumption or relaxing and socialising as a reward and plan my week around that. If I'm going out on Saturday night, I know I have Saturday morning to afternoon for creative play. Sometimes though I'm just not in the mood or have creative block, so I have to re-gig the plan - or sometimes if I'm not feeling inspired to create I do a menial task or chore that will buy me creative time further down the track.
@WeTalkArt5 ай бұрын
I forgot about the reward system. I have heard others suggest that works for them. I like your buying back time, that is great. See you soon.

Handling my tools or materials reminds me of projects, or why I bought them. I almost always start to use them. But, Yes, I was going to mention that having a clean space is much more inviting to starting new projects - Thanks!
