How do you get the color wheel and crt to sync?
@MrSlehofer
@MrSlehofer 4 күн бұрын
At 5:04 you can see the motor driver details. There is a reflective color wheel speed and phase sensor built from an IR led and IR phototransistor both pointed at a piece of white paper on the other side of the colorwheel. Colorwheel has black and see through sections in the middle that obstruct or let light through depending on the phase of rotation, which is then reflected by the paper and sensed by the phototransistor creating a square wave signal. This signal is then phase compared with a reference red sync signal in the XOR phase comparator creating a PWM signal, that is proportional to the phase difference between the two signals. Eg. 90° phase difference gives a 50% duty cycle (when comparing 50% duty cycle signals, which is the case only for the two color mode of operation) 180° gives 100% duty cycle and 0° gives 0% duty cycle. Final stage drives the small motor using a DC voltage dropped by resistors and fine tuned with TR11 trimmer. Phase comparator PWM signal is added on top of this DC voltage giving it fine control over the motor power. All of this forms a feedback loop (a phase locked loop), that when correctly adjusted by TR11 synchronizes the colorwheel rotation with the field sequential color.

Just a little disclaimer for anyone wondering, this is an early prototype to test the feasibility of the chosen topology. !!! UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE should you use this as it is to DELIVER POWER into the grid !!! !!! It is an NON-ISOLATED topology, meaning that the entire inverter as well as the connected solar panels are LIVE at all times !!! !!! Without special precautions that efectively isolate your grid and eliminate any risk of energy flowing outside, operating this inverter is HIGLY ILLEGAL in most countries and can be easily DETECTED by the power company if you have a modern digital power meter (analog ones will just spin backwards) !!! I uploaded it to share ideas and hopefully get some useful feedback from anyone in the comments. Thank you for your understanding!

Isn't principle of work of CRT monitors similar to oscilloscope? Like there is an electric cannon that shoots in each "cell", raws and columns of "pixels" are done by shifting/rotating lens a bit?
@MrSlehofer
@MrSlehofer Жыл бұрын
Yes, but usually there is no rotation involved, only shifting in the X or Y direction and modulation of the spot brightness. So in this case the oscilloscope is set up in so called XY mode, allowing for one channel to affect X deflection (shifting) and the other channel to deflect Y. In addition to that, there is an input on the back of the scope called Z axis input, that modulates the spot brightness. In analog video X and Y deflections are driven by periodic linear ramps (linearly rising voltage in time) of different frequencies which scan the raster on the screen continuosly. Then you create image by modulating brightness of the spot at a given position of on screen.

Just set the scope XY mode, DC coupling on Y input and AC coupling on X input, then also connect the Z input (usually on the back of the oscilloscope). By tuning the trace brightness you tune the brightness and contrast of the displayed image. If your scope does not have Z input, then you will need a different video converter which I documented here kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXKWqImbesqhqM0 Have fun.

Hello, I just got hold of this type of oscilloscope it has a DIN probe connector. Do you have any info on how to make such a probe cable?
@MrSlehofer
@MrSlehofer Жыл бұрын
Your best bet is to open the scope and check which pins in the connector are connected to gnd and vertical input. There should also be an extra connection to a third pin for 1:10 probe compensation. My scope also used to have the DIN connector, but I converted it to a BNC input as good probes are readily available.

@@MrSlehofer Thanks! I found the vertical input, so i can now use it with basic unshielded wires and play around with low frequencies. I even found docs for the scope, so it's now calibrated. I cannot replace the din connector as the scope is not mine, i borrowed it from a friend. So I need to build my own probe. Did you ever use this scope with DIN probe? Was it good enough for experimenting with audio range freqs?
@MrSlehofer
@MrSlehofer Жыл бұрын
@@miklosmuller7267 For audio the DIN should work just fine, have fun. Originally these scopes came with simple 1:1 or 1:10 fixed probes that plugged in that DIN. Such probes were primitive but they did get the job done just fine, BNC switchable probes are still a much better match for this scope.

LS should work fine too (rise and fall times are still plenty fast for up to 20 MHz scopes), I used AC to maximize contrast on faster scopes (20 MHz+, since slower risetimes caused by either the scope BW limitation or slower logic begin to draw faint lines between the hops, so an image on a 5 MHz scope will have somewhat lower contrast)
