I have one of these, about 50hrs, grandpa bought it new. I even have the original manual, warranty card, bag with prop pins and extra prop. It needs a new impeller and the gas tank has a pinhole somewhere, dad had it hanging on his boat as reserve for years. I had it running a couple of years ago, started easy.

You could have soldered a piece of brass on there and made new threads. I'd do that instead of JB weld (this stuff ain't good for much IMO).

Yeah, mine had the same problem. As I had to replace the cord anyway I just hit it all with brake cleaner. It dissolved all the old grease. Then it got just a little spray grease and a new cord. It behaves like brand new. :) Grease degrades over time and decades of sitting in a shed didn't do me any favors.

I just got one. In near mint condition (a little dent in the tank). I can't wait to take it apart and get it running again. :) Thanks for sharing this playlist with us.

Hey Leo. Thanks for this series. Just the ticket. I have my stepfather's 1963 unit, which looks identical. He bought it new and used it sparingly as a fishing kicker on his runabout. It has not run in 20 years, but I am going to do the overhaul so I can use it on our dingy when we go sailing/cruising. So much better than rowing, specially when the wind kicks up. Keep on with the good videos.

This rubrail install is helpful. I was trying to figure it out reading the instructions but needed visuals. Hoping I dont screw the installation up 🤞🏽

You speak about screwing. My former repairman screwed the rubrail directly into the gunwale with visible screws. When I screamed, just before changing boatyard, his son hid the screws inside a rubrail groove and hammered all back, still screws and no PVC riveted rail. @lgallant's tutorial is precious.

@@RobertoPizzala I ended up screwing the pvc rail and then pressure fit the black rub rail. All seemed to work out pretty well. Im now in the process of wiring up the 13 which I hope to have done soon.

My 1962 3hp. works best with the highspeed needle open 3/4 turn and the idle at 3 turns. When engine starts set both for best running, THEN install the adjustment knobs to between the 3 & 3 positions. If reusing the cork float boil off the shellack coating, dry for a few days, maybe a week, in a dry area of your workstation and coat with a thin coating of epoxy. I use 40ml. of a good grade of 2 cycle outboard oil per liter of idealy non ethenoled 87 0ctane regular petrol.

Hi sir ! I got the same motor, model jwl19. I need to take out the big screw under the starter to access under it. The motor won't start and we have no sparkles at the spark plug, we're guessing that the ignition coil are at fault. If you can help me and give tips and would really appreciate man! Thanks anyway and nice restoration!

Glad to see you finished your whaler. My 66 is done as well , haven’t had much time to splash her due to floridas crap weather lol. I posted a few videos on my channel , I’ve done so much to mine it’s looking like a brand new boat. One thing I’d suggest you do is upgrade to bigger tires !! I had those little tires on mine and it seemed that every time I go out to work on the busy the tires were super low .. put the big tires on and haven’t had any issues.

My start rope broke also to sharp metal close to knot hole. And rope&knot pieces was inside/under freewheel. And preventing starting. Starter is ok. Took off freewheel with cheap 2 leg puller. Then found 4 cm pieces of starter rope. I have many starters and I will compare if all starters have sharp metal edge cutting rope ( next to knot ) like sharp blade.

I personally would have taken the time to fix that transom properly. The transom has a lot of pressure of the thrust and with that a the pounding and vibration I would be nervous as heck.

You are right, and I have done just that this year. I took off those brackets and re-glassed the corners so they are incredibly strong now. In fact, I completely did another redo on the entire boat. Money was very tight back in the time of the original restore. Cheers!
