I have a question sir. Is this the explanation of external lashing? or both ways? because 2:28 photo is internal lashing.

Should the chain be totally put on this stopper after letting go anchor? Or the weight should be distributed between the band brake and the stopper? Many captains believe that there is a high risk of damaging the stopper or at least jumming of the chain by the stopper during bad weather at anchorage and prefer don't use in at all leaving the chain on the brake only after letting go the anchor. What is your opinion an a designer of anchoring equipment?

is that a liquid cargo being loaded after the placement of the bulkhead ? and if so what is the longer term watertight integrity of the bulkhead in light of other cargoes in the adjacent compartment. when everything is new it is fine, ..... maintenance ???

Not to mention that they may have to clean the hold after adding that bulkhead, slowing everything down. IIRC they do cleaning operations underway to save time a lot of the time.

I was looking for something to winch a big kite and assist with deployment handling. If I can work more of a fairlead on the end... This might be just the tool.

Thanks for your interest Windswept-and-Interesting. The FibreTrac crane is a subsea tool whose principal benefit is the ability to deploy enormous loads to great depths without having to share load capacity with the weight of the deployed rope hanging down into the water. This is because the rope is neutrally buoyant in water and has become an actively protected lift asset, not a consumable (as with steel wire). Additional features are active heave compensation and active rope tension control for keeping loads completely steady near subsea structures when the vessel itself is being moved by ocean swell and waves. Our winch also handles all detensioning while a separate low-tension drum stores the rope. On your site you mention that scaling to very large sizes can only be done with networks/arrays of smaller kites owing to wind power density. I don't imagine even a very large turbine kite would require such a powerful winch, such long lengths of rope or heave compensation, though separate rope storage may be useful. We do develop engineered solutions for a huge variety of load handling scenarios and do very creative development work for new concepts, so get in touch with our Kristiansand division if you'd like to learn more!.
