In the rest of the world dyslexia prevalence is 5-10%, Brittain has a lot of research, they say 10%. Where does the 20% number come from in US?

Dictation doesn't work!! For writing. It could generate ideas but the editing the dictation is seriously very clumsy and time consuming. I don't recommend that.

Writing: not taught well in schools elementary, high school, and college. "Taught well" meaning to develop a thesis from a funnel introduction is the key!!! Very simple. The way it's taught is "the culture of Writing " not taught in a logical way of writing essays. It took me many year to finally understand this! I can now write A+ research essays and teach it!!

The normal neurologically developed individuals, can memorize fact to become really good at trivia pursuit. Trivia pursuit is the most difficult and impossible game. But games like monopoly, I can beat anyone (almost everyone)

I'm very good at "inventing " interesting fictional stories. This work very well with young children (i am a teacher) and sometimes ill do Magic Tricks (I use magic tricks as motivation and reinforce attending behaviors) when skillfully done, it amazing of the results to offset disruptive behaviors in the class clowns (usually 2 kids to a classroom )

Random lists (I like to call them) in text books with no cause and effect or one follows the other logic, is extremely difficult for me to follow or memorize. Often I have to physically rearrange the "list" into a logical progression, then I understood the hell there are talking about in the text!

Adhd meds help me because I literally exhaust my physical body from thinking your brain consumes most of your body’s energy it’s why everything is shut down for the brains survival I have dyslexia severely I don’t loose any big picture thinking That’s literally not possible my brain is physically different from most adhd meds actually help me. There’s also a difference between adhd and add etc is what you said from the book or your opinion. It sounded like an opinion to justify what you want or a religion beliefs if so stop it stop it right now.

Hey, thanks for commenting on our video, and sorry we did not get back to you sooner. In these videos, we were trying to do our best to summarize the book the dyslexic advantage. I’m not sure what opinion you are referring to from this video. Our desire with this video is to point to some of the evidence that having dyslexia is not necessarily a bad thing, just a different way that some people see the world and interact with it. I would encourage you to look At the book the dyslexic advantage. We encountered this book through a teacher continuing education class offered by our Area education agency. Currently we are running three guides. We have a 5th grader in creation to Christ, 3rd grader in bigger hearts, and 1st grader in beyond and a preschooler. I read the history to each kid individually and we do science all together from The creation to Christ guide. While I am doing history with one, the others are either doing independent school or on a break. We also have dropped a few HOD subjects all together, such as Bible study, poetry, and we pick and choose which rotating boxes we use. It is definitely a lot to juggle! In the creation to Christ guide the child becomes much more independent. If I did this guide as it was written, I would only be doing science, and geography with her. But she asked that I continue to do history with her That being said, we have decided to try mystery of history this next year. I am wanting something that has more family style learning and more hands on. This will also free up some time to focus on more important subjects. I don’t know what next year will completely look like because I am still researching all subject late except history and reading.

Are there tests or evaluations with HOD? How do you evaluate your students?
@moldingourmonkeys2619
@moldingourmonkeys2619 3 жыл бұрын
There are not formal evaluations in heart of Dakota.(at least the levelsI’ve done) The curriculum relies more on oral and written narration to check for understanding of history and science topics. The older grades have note booking pages that are great for checking that also. The Singapore math that heart of Dakota recommends does reviews every so often and I try to use those as our “tests”. The review assignments I typically make them do without any help so I can really see where they’re at. Where we’re located does not require any sort of reporting of progress so I don’t worry about formal evaluation much at all. One of the great things about homeschooling is it’s so much easier to evaluate on a daily basis where the kids are. When you’re teaching one on one or in such a small group you have a chance to see every little thing the kids struggle with.

The first time we used little hearts for his glory I took “The world God made“ that the curriculum mentions and found supplemental material to go with that book. We used the book front to back instead of the pages in random order like heart of Dakota suggests. The second time we used it I ordered magic school bus science kits and went through those. We enjoyed the electricity one, and the human body one the best. The third time we went through little hearts for his glory we were going through apologia’s Exploring creation with zoology one and two.

Lovely informative video. I'm from the UK and we don't need to report on our homeschooling, however if we do get a home visit, we should be able to present and show evidence that work is being carried out in our homeschool and that our children are learning something, other wise we can get issued with a waring and may result in having send our children back to school. I have a similar KZbin Channel if anybody is interested. I encourage all of you to come check, all feedback is welcome. If you enjoy my content don’t hesitate to subscribe and comment so that I can welcome you to the family.
